No way Bennett signs for $3M per for a long term deal it won't happen. If he goes long term the Flames pay for potential and it is in the $4.5-$5.5M range on a 6-8 year deal. Personally I don't see the Flames taking that risk and I think Bennett is the type of player that would bet on himself and take a 2-3 year bridge around $2.5-$3M per
Bennett had a sophomore slump but still put up 36pts as a 19 year old rookie those numbers are not bad

Let's throw everything into a blender. How would this roster shape up?
Tkachuk - Monahan - Brouwer
Bouma - Backlund - Lazar
Gaudreau - Bennett - Ferland
Versteeg - Jankowski - Frolik
Vey
Giordano - Stone
Kulak - Hamilton
Kylington - Brodie
Bartkowski
Bishop
Gillies

Yeah, as I typed I thought $3 was really light for a long term deal. The Flames would be all over that and Bennett fires his agent.

So you are going to give your best offensive player 3rd line icetime? I don't think so.

Did... you read the top of the post? I was just mixing up the team's lines, the order matters not.

Yes, perhaps the numbers may be a bit high for Bennett's bridge deal, and maybe Ferland is a tad too high also?

Love Stajan, but I'm going to pretty disappointed if one of our young centers aren't able to push him out of the line up next season by simply being better than he is now.
Monahan
Backlund
Bennett
Assuming that's the top 3, at least one of Jankowski, Lazar or Hamilton need to be better than Stajan next season

Might as well take a swing at it with Smith now.
Stajan to Vegas
Still need to drop one forward.
Went with the re-signing Johnson rumor.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Prybl
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Ferland-Bennett-Lazar
Stajan-Jankowski-Brouwer
Hathaway
Giordano-Hamilton
Brodie-Hamonic
Kulak-Andersson
Wotherspoon
Smith
Rittich
I'd be comfortable with that, and gilles getting tonnes of time in the AHL.
Also, after reading a couple of toronto blogs, I feel comfortable in saying Prybl is the next Jagr. I think that's how prospect evaluation is done.

Not a bad team at all! Switch Neal for Radulov and I'm with you (although getting Neal would be nice too, if Radulov is not available).
Also, no way they're letting Lazar play on the 3rd while Brouwer plays 4th. I mean, he's overpaid, yes, but he played better than a 4th liner.

^Is he? Are there any teams left who need a starting goaltender? Given that, how many teams are willing to give him money/term? Is it outside the realm of possibility he takes 1 year 3 million? And really, which of the following goaltending tandems would you be the most comfortable going into the season with:
Smith - Johnson; Smith - Rittich; Smith - Elliott; Smith - Gillies
I mean, I'm still kinda hoping for Steve Mason, but with Smith here for 4+ million that seems more unlikely than resigning Elliott.

Yes because the 3rd round pick that the Flames would need to give St. Louis was traded to Arizona (even though that will end up being a 2nd).

How much do you want to pay for Bonino? Isn't he that typical Stanley Cup playoff performer that gets severely overpaid in free agency?
