I admittedly read the article and even worse, looked into the comments. I was left quite puzzled. The oilers dummies kept heralding their '1st place Oilers' as a trump card. I suppose at the time the Sharks hadn't quite finished us off but it seems pretty clear that the Sharks are the 1st place team in the Pacific and the Oilers have been barely hanging on(mostly with overtime/shootout wins) and shouldn't be gloating about their supposed 1st place team. Not only are they not in 1st place of anything but they're only tied for 4th in the west. I'm not going to give their record too much hell, particularly after the flames game tonight, but my god how does one post that type of garbage and earnestly believe that it has worth.

Edmonton is no good.

In all fairness, Colorado is probably the other team that was trying to get 1st overall picks. Remember Burke's rant not too long ago? He purposefully iterated "it isn't just the Oilers" or "I am not talking about the Oilers". Pretty sure the Avs were in that boat.

You reap what you sow. Both organizations suck, and built their foundation on losing. That should hopefully keep them both sucking for another 10 years.

Also, Avs suck, and they deserve to keep sucking, but in what world would the Avs take a page out of the Oilers' rebuild, when it has been the Avs that actually made the playoffs in this past decade?

"Don't hire incompetent front office staff simply because of the glory years"
"Don't put on that smirk when collecting 1st round picks"
"Don't make it an organizationally philosophy that losing is ok in a losing season just to grab a 1st overall"
"Don't Hire stupid coaches"
"Don't neglect defence"
"Get competent medical staff and don't force players to play who aren't ready"

There are plenty of lessons every organization should learn from the Oilers. Winning isn't one of them.

It's easy to forget, but the Avs are the same franchise that strung together not 1 (Sundin), not 2 (Nolan), but 3 (Lindros) first overalls together to build the foundation of their stretch of contendership. Maybe the Oilers are actually learning from them!

In fairness to Spector, I think this is his point:

He could easily move Duchene, MacKinnon or Landeskog, but if Hall returned a Larsson, it will take more moves than that one deal to turn the Avs’ ship around.

Being willing to trade the highly drafted forwards for the pieces you need.

What universe do we live in where the Oilers think they can give other teams advice to follow their plan to turn it around. Did I miss the past 10 years? Spector = No Good

Spector was worse when he was on with Kerr on the drive home yesterday. To summarize, he thinks that the Oilers modest success is because Chiarelli is a genius for trading Hall for Larsson who he called a physical shut down defenceman. Shut down. Absolutely no frackin good.

I turned it off before he came on. Kerr is getting really bad to listen to and as soon as he said "Spector will be on to talk about how the Avs can follow the Oilers model to improve......" No no no No no no No no no No no no No no no

That was a good decision. The McJesus man love he had was awkward and borderline inappropriate.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but this 3 minute rant by a caller into an Oiler post game show is fantastic!

The Oil fan base is full of lunatics. Kassian pulls some bonehead stunt and gets manhandled by Doan and all they can talk about is how Kassian is Semenko 2.0 but more skilled lol. I know I shouldn't laugh at mental illness.
