So I finally took the plunge and got myself an iPad2. I read on here that Air Video is an app to get - and I really like the looks of it. The question is, lets say that I download a movie from itunes. Will it work over air video? If not, how would one go about converting that video to a format that would work over air play?

Thanks in advance!

most movie files will work. Air Video converts on the fly. Great app.

If I recall it won't do DRM'd videos (like itunes videos). I've been down the road of stripping drm from one of those, and it didn't really work.

I think I played a DRM video once, but it had to do it over "Live Conversion" play setting. I'll give it a try when I get a chance.

If you got it through iTunes. It will work over the apple AirPlay that's built into itunes

Air Video will NOT play Apple DRM video files. It works with almost any other type of non-DRM file though. It works amazing in conjunction with Apple TV. You can watch any video on the Apple TV through the airplay feature in Air Video. It opens up a torrent of possibilities.

It will work, but that's only dependent on what the use is. Within your wifi network will work great, but if you want to watch videos from your collection while on the road it won't work.

Oh I see what you did there.

I actually want to do things legitimately though. The whole point as Russic pointed out is that I want to be able to use my home computer as a movie library that I can access while out of the house - so it's annoying that by going the legal route there are all these barriers.

Just a heads up for those who are interested, but Comex just released his jailbreak for the iPad 2.

Thought I'd put this in this megathread. Forget fake iPads, now they're faking....an entire Apple Store?

I want to get an Ipad2, but I've recently heard rumours that a new Ipad might be coming out as early as September. Anyone heard anything about this? How likely is a new ipad at this point?

Didn't the iPad 2 come out in March? Seems way too early to be updating it again.

Thats what I'm thinking but the rumours are out there. I just don't want to buy one and find out in September a new one is out.

Anyone know if you can just have it always set when they are within range?

The only one I know of is MyWi on Demand. However it does require a jailbroken iPhone.

As long as you keep your hotspot "on" they will automatically connect if your ipad has the password saved

What would that do to your battery though?
