Bauer is a locker room cancer that needs to be far away from the Blue Jays. His team mates usually hate the guy. We don’t need that distraction.

If the Jays sign Bauer, I will stop cheering for the Jays

If he wasn’t represented by Boras, I think he’d give it a thought. Boras is regularly whispering in his ear about the soft free agent market and the nine figure deal that he will inevitably get.
I think the Jays would be pretty ok with him signing the QO - it would give another year for Martinez to firm up the changes that he’s made to his approach at the plate and improve his defense. It would eat a chunk of the available dollars to spend but it wouldn’t be crippling.

Pipe dream off season:
Sign Ohtani to a mega deal
Trade for Soto and extend on a mega deal
Sign Yamamoto
lol
If just one of those came true it would be awesome

Mattingly is a candidate to become the Brewers' manager.

What did Mattingly actually do this past season?

He hit .220 last year. Don't they already have a Varsho?

Atkins says Martinez will stay on as hitting coach.
Better load up on the pitching and try to win some low scoring games, I guess.

I honestly believe this is an almost insurmountable uphill battle. Too many holes, too many constraints. My only hope is atkins doesn’t trade away young potential for the inevitable retool after this year.
Basically load up on your strongpoint in pitching and hope the batting sorts itself out.

Bring back Teoscar, that fills a hole.

His fielding was pretty bad. As DH maybe but he’s so damn streaky. His power fits the position but ideally you want someone who’s more consistent and not just a wild hacker.

Not letting Martinez go is a horrible move. He should have been one of the first to go.

Not letting him go is the ultimate head scratcher. You don't want to make an example of anyone but there was nothing he did based on the results, that could justify keeping him. Only thing I can think of is his affiliation with Vlad, which would indicate they're looking to keep Vlad around. I think they're going the wrong direction with a move like this. Certainly you want to treat your players well, but give him a psychiatrist to work with. If other players see Vlad getting a free pass from the coaches or special attention, that's not good for morale. Everyone should be supported the same. Very very odd move by the Jays.

Mattingly has been named, assuming a promotion, offensive coordinator.
Presumably also to quell any talk of him going after a manager job somewhere else.
There's no doubt he's there, and always has been, to guide a first time manager, and have to credibility to slide into Schneider's chair if the Jays underperform at any point in the next two seasons. And then he will fire Martinez and he'll hire his own hitting coach.

Potentially Martinez is doing exactly what the analytic gurus are telling him to do .
The Jays cut down their strikeouts , hit more opposite field , and took more pitches
If that was his “goals” at the start of the year he executed.
It didn’t result in a good offence but that doesn’t mean Martinez “failed” , but little this team does makes sense so nothing would surprise me anymore

He's got what the Jays were missing... big time power. I agree that you don't want him regularly fielding (He'd need to field some I wager because I also don't think you want a full time DH).
Proposal: Jays sign Teo and Heyward. Heyward is a platoon bat at this point but he's still got some thump and he's a plus defender. So you do have Teo in the field for the weak side of the platoon and he DH's for the strong side. You'll lose something on D but you're getting a significant upgrade in Power. Payroll implications would be close to neutral vs. Belt/Kiermeier
That leaves Merrifield, Chapman, & Ryu still needing replacement. Davis Schneider can do the Merrifield role I wager, Getting a 5th starter to replace Ryu shouldn't be an issue (heck... it might just be Ryu on a lower ticket). That would leave just a Chapman replacement... that'll be difficult.
I mean... I'd really like Ohtani but it's almost unbelievable to imagine that Rogers could be convinced to authorize the half-billion dollars or so it likely takes to get him.

If you save $6MM replacing Merrifield with Schneider and another ~$10MM replacing Ryu with cheaper Ryu you could use that money to give Chapman a pretty substantial raise on his current $12.5 and still come out even. I have to think $25MM x 5 gets him to sign doesn't it?
