Not sure if it is already covered in here, but if not, has anyone listened to/heard the new Ryan Adams? I recently read a review that said it was supposed to be quite good. Anyone?

Yeah! If they are ever satisfied enough with it to release it that is. Last update on it I've heard is that they were mastering the record in New York. If they liked it, they were done, unfortunately that was a while ago and still no word on if they think it's ready.

Thoughts on the new Matt Good album, anyone? I picked it up and have listened to it a few times. Some really good tracks on there, but a few weaker ones as well. I'll wait and see if they grow on me over time. I need a few more listens.

Probably his most depressing release ever. He seems to have a lot of that anger back, which makes for good music, but there's something else there as well. Interesting to say the least.

I heard somewhere that after the breakup of his band, he DID go into serious depression, started to spiral downwards and if I remember he even thought about / tried to commit suicide... then, when he was in the hospital recovering, he had somewhat of a revelation... that he was put on this earth to make music... and so he picked himself up and carried on.

I picked that up too based on strong reviews (that girl is sassy):

And, Challengers by the New Pornographers:

Yes, the new Ween album has a name, "La Cucaracha". The album kicks ass, I'm not really sure what else to say about it other than I really can't wait for it's release. There's not a wasted minute of music on there. We wrote and recorded a ton of material before we whittled it down to it's present state. We recorded the album to two inch 24 track tape and it sounds amazing . . . It's due to be released in late September. . . I really, I mean really can't wait for you guys to hear it. I think you're gonna be floored.

Can you elaborate? They don't believe the HIV virus is real? Or are they denying they have it? I've never heard of anyone (outside of corrupt Africa governments) saying otherwise.

In 2000, the band generated controversy through their public support of Alive & Well, an organization that denies the link between HIV and AIDS, questions the validity of HIV tests, and advises against taking medication to counter the disease.

In January 2000, the band played a benefit concert for the organization.

Some rock stars want to free Tibet. Others want to save Mumia. The Foo Fighters, on the other hand, want their fans to ignore accepted medical wisdom about AIDS.

They haven't done any benefits in the past few years, but apparently are still supporting and spreading the cause.

The new Weakerthans and M.I.A. albums are both really good but all I've been listening to of late is Beirut's new release (which is also superb).
