I like that top 13 too, think the team is going to be adding a prospect we can really get excited about. Silayev is the one guy I'd like them to avoid, simply because he's never produced offensively at any level yet. I get that he is playing senior mens pro hockey but the way the game is going drafting for size/physical tools and projecting that his offence will come seems like a big gamble that early in the draft. Also when you look at the flames roster and prospect profile, it's the high end offence/scoring ability that is missing. No doubt he'll play in the NHL but watching his videos and looking at his numbers, he doesn't ever seem like a guy that will drive offence. And the league has changed a lot since Chara's era where physical dmen who can fight, check and hit are really a lot less valuable.

Can't imagine being disappointed on day one with the way things are shaping up.

Oh someone will for sure be disappointed we didn't take player X and the team behind us got a steal.

There's only 1 or 2 players ranked lower where I'd scratch my head and go "okay???I guess that's your guy" when it come to the Flames pick.
Not gonna name names.

Or pick some player way off the board who's a character guy and 6' 8" that was injured most of last year so you can't look at his stats.

Brandsegg-Nygard
Michael Hage
Liam Greentree
Those are the three that would be "off the board" type picks that I could see the Flames having interest in.

I had the USA-Slovakia game on last night long enough to hear Craig Button praise baby Satan as a shoe-in to be drafted by an NHL team. Everything I have digested on him up until this point however (and there’s not much), suggests that there’s no NHL upside. I was hoping to watch him in this tournament to form my own opinion, and as I’m recording all the games, I will post a profile of him ASAP. I will be re-watching last night’s game, but USA won 9-0, so there might not be much to see, lol.

I might even add Yakemchuk, as good as he is, no one at all has him in the top 10. those three seem to be in a next tier... but of course the flames scouts will have way more knowledge than me on it.
The more I read reports on how good Helenius is, and with Eiserman falling I'm wondering if the Flames get bumped down to the 10 slot if they're left picking between Eiserman, Iginla and Silayev. Helenius' pace of play and raw speed just works in today's NHL. I know people are scarred on the Finnish league after how badly poolparty did after putting up big numbers there but Helenius has a completely different game, if he can stick at centre what a valuable piece for your club he could be for a decade.
I'd be really excited to see the flames get him or obviously any of the other top 5 forwards, or the big 4 non-Silayev dmen. And drafting Tij would be a fun ride too.

Pronman and Cosentino have Yakemchuk at 3, and 5 respectively.

I like Cosentino, but I don't really see him as a draft guy, he's a WHL guy and a bit of a homer (in the best way).
Pronman is the only one I've heard of who positions himself as a scout with him in top 10 and 3rd seems ridiculous to me its so out of line with everyone else.
When you look at the composite ratings on the elite page, 0/18 have him inside the top 10.... one has him rated right at 10. 20 years ago he'd surely be above all the smaller less physical fast dmen ranked above him because of his snarl. He's a good player and wouldn't be disappointed with him just seems to be fairly consistently ranked just outside that top 10 or 11 grouping.

Just grab ine if those consensus top 13 please.

It's funny - people talk about Iginla a lot, but Yakemchuk is ranked right by him, is a local kid with a lot of pluses. He's not too far off of 9th that it would be a real outside the box pick.

Hage imo will be the steal of the first round. If we could draft one of high end D men at 9 and move up to add Hage as well from the Vancouver pick that would be a dream draft for me next to winning the lottery.

I wouldn't call picking the player that they have highest on their own list galaxy braining.
It's just sticking with the list, which I very much hope they do.
Chances are they have the same 13 (maybe on omission and addition), but in a different order, and the landing spot is one of the 13 regardless.

Im not surprised nor would i be surprised if the flames took him.
Big=good
Good skater will get better.
Very good shot 30+ goals on a crap team.
Hands of a forward
Seems to have pretty good vision and iq. I think if yak had been on a good team he would he talked about more and his point totals would probably be higher.

I am not sure how up to date all of those individual rankings are, as for example the Sportnet/Cosentino ranking of #19 is from December.
I do agree however that he's a player that could go anywhere from 5-18, and it all depends on how the draft falls. It's such an interesting and volatile draft at the top end.

On the contrary, from the games I've seen I feel him being on a weaker team has inflated his point totals a bit because he feels he has to 1 man show it a lot of the time. Not to say he wouldn't put up points on a more stacked team but I think he's looked better because its the Yak show in Calgary and nobody there could provide their own offence.
I'm okay with him as a pick but not over Buium, Parekh or Dickinson.

I have them all close. Each one brings something unique to the table. Yak size and hands, buium skating incredible hockey brain, parehk goal scoring defender, Dickinson has all the tools and a huge shot.
May he one if the best defender drafts in decades. Thats just the top ten.
