I meant it more as the fact that Mendes is running the club now with Jose, which is better than woodword doing it

than DDG negatively

Understand that Arsenal have triggered the release clause in Jamie Vardy's contract. Leicester still determined to keep hold of him.

Wenger probably made the offer will full knowledge Vardy will stay at Leicester. That way he can at least say he tried.

I just got a text that Liverpool offered Vardy £140k/wk.

Apparently his release clause can only be triggered by a team in the Champions League, so only Arsenal or City or Spurs can sign him. Obviously that leaves Arsenal and no one else.

Wenger tried this with Suarez a few years back, no?

Leicester can't afford to match, can they? Even with the TV deal and CL revenue? It'll then be up to Vardy if he remains loyal, at least for the year... and then move next summer to a CL qualifier. Given the way Hodgson seems to be using him, his stock(though same could be said for most the English squad) won't be on the uptick after Euro either.

Really hope Arsenal can get this done; would be exactly what we need.
If that term about it his clause requiring a Champions League team, I can't see anyone but Arsenal making a push for him anyway.

City have Aguero and Spurs have Kane; Arsenal is the only Champions League club with a real need for a player like Vardy.
Seems it's either stay put or move to Arsenal as the only legit choices for him.

Leicester can afford it, they have a very rich owner too. Whether they do would be another story, but I would bet on matching.

See thats the sticking point for me, hes 29, do you really want to splash £20M on him? No matter how you look at it he wouldnt be part of any long-term plan.

Besides, wait until after the Euro where Hodgson is going to have him stapled to the bench and you can get him for half-price.

Leicester's biggest problem is that a good degree of their success is credited to a very strong team spirit, so they cant just go out there and make a huge splash in the transfer market and thus change the formula.

I agree with this 100%. While the need for a player like Vardy is evident, why not go after players who have shown they can provide that kind of play consistently.

Although Wenger's interest in Vardy surprises me, I can imagine him looking at the situation and feeling that he simply cannot afford a World Class striker made in the mold that Arsenal require. The next tier of these strikers are also rather pricey and this price may not be worth the risk in their uncertainties/limitations. As such, Wenger may feel that a combination purchase of an older but somewhat proven striker and a young prospect would be slightly more expensive than a Benzema/Morata/Higuain but less risky.

seems like Arsenal are actually taking part of the transfer window and spend big money for once. Good for them. To be honest, Vardy seems like a bit of a weird target though. I simply can't imagine him in Arsenals offensive system. 20m is a bargain though, so why not?

definitely going to United now, according to Sky.

Manchester United will complete the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and could conclude a deal before the start of Euro 2016, according to Sky sources.

It is understood United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and Ibrahimovic's representatives are finalising terms on a one-year contract, with Jose Mourinho determined to make the Sweden international his first marquee signing at Old Trafford.

The other consideration to Arsenal acquiring Vardy, is the double benefit of weakening a direct competitor. Having scored close to 1/2 their total goals.

Manchester United are apparently signing Villareal centre back Eric Bailly for €25-30m, according to several reports in Spain. Bit out of left field, to be honest.

Supposedly a bid for Andre Gomes too that may involve Mata the other way

smart to get things done early, its always a short pre-season in years with a tournament
