So essentially we can't do that. We can only dig straight down or sideways in one direction with the sole purpose of finding a cave system. You can divert directions if you feel like you are not making progress, but ultimately, you can't mine like the way the video suggest.
That's insane. Only a few days to build? I wish I was that creative.
There are a few tricks to help get your creative juices flowing. Take a real life structure and recreate it. Once you do that for a couple things, then just take a random feature like a crazy balcony or arch and build something around that concept.
Before you know it, you will walk up to a plot of land and be able to see what would work well there.
I had a guy once who explained some simple design concepts that really helped the way I thought of things in Minecraft. Most of it is summed up in this Voxel wiki page, which I found a couple weeks ago, looking for hints on making parabola wiring for my Golden Gate bridge replica.
Once you get used to the process, you will soon find that if you play for 4-5 hours you can get some really cool stuff made. If you play for a weekend, you can get some really amazing stuff finished. Thinking of it in that perspective, 60 people for 3 days is over 4000 man hours. It better be good for that much time.

I've tried to replicate some famous buildings before but the height limit in Minecraft was killing any chances of them coming out right. That and for some reason I can never get color choices right to make it look good.
I tried doing the Jin Mao tower, then the Petronas Towers, but in the end they came out completely different.
Banning strip mining is an essential rule, especially for experienced guys like these. They could get a full set of diamond armor in about an hour. And it forces you to explore caves, which are dangerous.
I'd be up for the hardcore challenge too. I've been strictly a single player guy as well, but this looks like fun.
This hardcore season is pretty good....I'm interested in playing if there's room for another person. I can donate to the server rental as well. End of April/early May is good for me.
I used to have a server that I can host, but I don't anymore. It'd be cool if someone can do that. We can film it on fraps and give CP some entertainment for a few days. lol
Episode 6 is up. 4 players remaining - KurtjMac, W92Baj, VintageBeef and Guude.
Just in case...
Spoiler!
When it get's down to 2 guys, they end up talking over skype, so it's easy to sync both videos (because the chat is the same) and watch them side by side, seeing both perspectives at the same time.
Ok, does anyone have any experience with MCEdit? I've created 2 worlds now with 2 different seeds but all I end up with are worlds that are over %50 water. Trial and error is a bit of a pain when a 2000X2000 block world takes 20 minutes to build.
How many people do we have? I think a bit smaller would be better.
just some outside input, but if you go smaller, it'd be more exciting, but maybe a 10 minute truce time at the beginning to ensure everyone has an opportunity to just get things going. Kinda avoids that thing where two people end up spawning next to each other.
Yeah, I kind of wish there were premade maps for this with premade spawn points not near each other. If that were the case, I think going with something in the 1500-1800 square area would be more than big enough.
Aside from the whole KurtJMac vs PauseUnpause vs VintageBeef awesomeness at the top of the stairs, there wasn't a whole lot of pvp action. I guess that and the brief Nether battle. I just never got the feeling that they were having to sneak around to avoid being seen in their daily hunting/gathering/building efforts. And you had people like Baj and Guude who were way off away from everyone.
What I'd really like to see is a 3d replay of the Mindcrack round on a map, in fast forward. Like, watch guys wander around in their own areas, and then eventually die or run into each other.
