Yep, people are confusing taxi drivers with people who own taxi plates. Taxi drivers will be more than happy to switch over to Uber and I know a couple of guys who are going to Uber when it comes. Rent for taxis haven't come down despite rates going down and it'll be a nice to have a little bit of choice for these guys and the consumers.

There is already a shortage of taxi drivers in Calgary and Uber coming will make that worse. Note: by shortage I don't mean there isn't enough taxis, I mean there isn't enough drivers willing to rent taxis from the owner because of the high cost. So there will be even a bigger shortage when Uber comes and a lot of taxi drivers start driving for Uber so rent will fall and it'll be better for the driver and consumers.

I watched the debate but I actually missed whether adding the extra 225 (or whatever) taxi licenses was passed or not. Was it?

Yes, new plates were released. The taxi companies asked for it if the council approved the fee changes for Uber.

Man, if I could pay someone to walk my dog and come back with wine and pizza that would be a hell of a service!

Wait, Uber pets exists in Calgary? Can you explain how that works? Do they drop off a Saint Bernard at your door on demand, or...

I will never take a taxi again in Calgary unless a company is paying it for me.

Plastic smart cards are already out of date. Smart-phone app based fare payment FTW!

Thanks. I thought the mayor's reasoning for why that shouldn't pass was interesting. I'd like to hear from taxi drivers, not just the companies on that.

This is amazing. I can't wait to have 800 dome beers and pour myself into an Uber to Okotoks.

My game attendance just went from 3 a year to maybe 10-15!

I'm not happy that my ward's councilor voted against Uber (Keating). Not voting for him next election.
