Thanks for the input guys.

I am actually quite looking forward to it. Plus I would rather get my cardio in this way instead of riding a stationary bike at lunch, or worse running (lol)

^^Give us some details. How long did it take? Anything interesting?

I saw a pheasant the other morning in Fish Creek - not mind blowing I know but I was stoked.

My biggest piece of advice is enjoy the weather in the evenings by sitting on your deck or step and practice changing the tube in your tire. The last thing you want is to spend a bunch of time fumbling around when a bit of practice can have you knock it out in less than five mins.

Carry two extra tubes, a wrench and some tire levers.

Nothing super interesting. I am completely out of shape so my mind was solely thinking of making it to work without passing out (ok it wasn't that bad).

20km to work from the deep SW (Evergreen), made it in 50 mins (got caught up a little in the elbow river path being closed).

My next purchase for sure, thanks for the tip.

For anyone who's been on it recently - Eagle Eye included - what parts are shut down still? Haven't even tried going down to Glenmore yet since it got nice.

don't forget about a mini-pump or CO2 cartridges and inflation chuck. also not a bad idea to carry a patch kit and a tire boot (a temporary fix for a tire with a hole int eh sidewall) as they are small and do not weigh much.

If you can, pack some clothing to prepare for a worst-case change in the weather. I've been caught off guard by an afternoon thunderstorm a few times when there was a 10% POP in the forecast that morning.

It's Calgary. You should never trust the forecast. If I believed the forecast when I checked the night before, I'd probably ride in half as much as I do out of fear of snow/rain.

Yep. And bag your work clothes. Nothing worse than changing into dress pants that have streak of brown road splash up the middle.

Its around 4st SW on the South and East side of the river (hopefully that makes sense)

Yeah - the section of pathway that runs alongside the Elbow river from Stanley Park to Rideau Park is mostly closed. There is a detour, which takes you over some grass/gravel/dirt trail. It's a little trickier if you're on skinny slick tires, but not a dealbreaker. Essentially, you can still get from point A (Stanley Park) to point B (Rideau Park) and vice versa.

I didn't know until yesterday when I came across it on my way home.

Just bought one of these guys.

EDIT: NM Simon answered what I was wondering.

Just really bothers me that this hasn't been fixed in 2 years now.

Cool, seams expensive though?
I was thinking something like this:

with a battery and button wired up would do nicely for more of a horn sound.

Saw a couple posts regarding what to do with work clothes for the commuter.

I keep 2 weeks worth of work clothes at the office. Scheduled a weekly pick-up/drop off with Fishman's, they just completed the first dropoff/pickup cycle today. They come and grab everything, including socks and banana hammocks. You hand them a garbage bag full of dirty stuff and it comes back drycleaned or laundered. Timely and they do a fantastic job. I highly recommend them.

The only thing I have to figure out now is what to do with the riding clothes. It's a bit gross putting on the slightly damp and cold cycling stuff at the end of the work day.
