I like Stajan a lot but he's not getting younger. And even Backlund will be in the upper 20s when Jankowski is ready to play a big role.

The reduced cap hit would help too.

If Bennett @ Center doesn't pan out, always good to have a 6'4, 220lb backup plan
Gaudreau-Monahan-Klimchuk (or Granlund)
Bennett-Jankowski-Poirier (or Granlund)
Five first round picks and a Johnny Hockey. Toss in a Ferland, a Bouma, a Hathaway, a Mangiapane, an Arnold, and a Backlund, (or Granlund).

Lol, I like all those (or granlund)'s - fitting for the guy who just cant quite find his home but can do a little of everything

Count my endorsement for the left-wing possibility:

Your then GM takes a flyer on a projected mid/later round no name in an extremely weak draft and you're still trying to find ways to pencil him in to a future line up? C'mon. There are guys on this site writing off Draisaitl and some of you at grasping as straws thinking this guy has an NHL future? Don't see how he keeps y'allhangin on. Seriously.

Seriously. Other than "weak draft", everything you posted is wrong or gross hyperbole.

WTF does this kid have to do to get some of these posters respect? He has made strides every year so far. Everyone knew he would be a project and he has done everything he needs to up to this point. Give the kid a break, its not like he drafted himself ...

Jankowski has a high floor. IMO he will be at least a good 4th liner. I'm more confident in him playing in 100 NHL games then I am anyone in Stockton save 2-3 guys.

Thrilled that he got off to a quick start. If we are honest with ourselves, Janko needs to break out offensively this year to have a legitimate shot at an NHL career.

"In case" ? Now there's confidence. He's probably a great guy and a better hockey player than you and I will ever be but my point is this: had he been picked were he was projected and should have been he would not be wasting anyones time. He'd simply be some guy who got drafted who's now selling insurance or whatever when he finishes school. But you can just go nuts saving every quote slighting this young fella so you can maybe possibly get some sorta 'got ya' down the road without thinking maybe he's a bust. Bottom line is he was a wasted pick in the first round. But it coulda been much worse - it could have been in a strong draft. Anything he shows professionally is an extreme bonus. Deal with it or just forget him.

He was projected to go in the second round. Oilers fans might not understand, but second round picks can turn into good NHL players.
