Professor Timothy Snyder, a leading academic at Yale University, said the US President was already displaying “fascistic” tendencies and could be tempted by a new political system that does not rely on elections.

Same poll was up on the Calgary Sun site the last couple days (sadly down now) and was ~60% "Yes". What a demographic.

I voted yes to this poll.
In the first 100 days the ACA still stands, a judge that will check executive power was appointed (there were far worse options here). The US court system is still working and Trump as gone from crazy anti-establishment Bannonite to typical republican.
On the budget the democrats essentially won
On immigration the democrats have essentially won
On health care the democrats have essentially won
On foreign policy we haven't been nuked.
On Russia / Trump there appears to be some bi-partisan work being done
So in the first 100 days we are definitely in the upper quartile of potential outcomes here and therefore Trump has been a success. (graded heavily on a curve where not creating permanent damage to the world/democracy is considered a success)

Success through failure, which is Donald Trump's life story.
Apt for sure in this case!

I'd add to all of these that there seems to be a rekindled level of engagement amongst liberals regarding political activism, usually unseen in non-presidential elections. It remains to be seen whether it will be sustained or whether Democrats will do something to ruin it, but the foundation is there for some significant change in the political landscape. To me that's the biggest success... especially since pissing off the left was always part of his plan and one of his big selling points.

This is a bit of a response to the "stop attacking conservatives! Be nice Liberals!" junk:
Essentially, conservatives: stop being hypocritical whiners because some people aren't being nice
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics...m_source=atltw
Quote:
Many of these otherwise lovely conservatives sat in disdainful judgment of liberals far more often than the typical liberal even thought about anyone like them. But they truly felt they were the objects of the condescending vitriol. In a weird way, they had internalized a view of themselves as cultural inferiors.
|
Quote:
Or consider Ann Coulter, who has reemerged as a voice that young conservatives on college campuses are intentionally associating themselves with. Prior to her most recent book, Adios, America: The Left's Plan to Turn Our Country Into a Third World Hellhole, she authored bestsellers including, Never Trust a Liberal Over 3; the un-subtlely demonizing Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America; If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans; and How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must).
|
Quote:
None of this is to excuse the smug style of liberalism. The “smug, vitriolic liberalism” critiques are important and worthy of attention. But the context of the comparable style of conservatism has to inform the conversation ... a bit more introspection from rank-and-file conservatives would also help them to be bothered a bit less by the presence of some smug, vitriolic liberals out there.

interesting on the ACA...
looks like Iowa might be the first state to have their insurance collapse due to insurers pulling out...
“Without swift action by the state or Congress to provide stability to Iowa’s individual insurance market, Medica will not be able to serve the citizens of Iowa in the manner and breadth that we do today. We are examining the potential of limited offerings, but our ability to stay in the Iowa insurance market in any capacity is in question at this point,” the company’s statement said.

with the new bill on the horizon, i'll be interested to see what happens... Iowa voted GOP, so I don't have a lot of sympathy for them to be honest

I can't wait for the inevitable quote in a couple weeks time
"after speaking with anybody for 30 seconds it became clear that everything about Israel-Palestinian is hard."

After that they asked him about the unified field theory and he said he'll get that done too!

"I'm looking at two-state and one-state, and I like the one that both parties like ... I can live with either one," Trump told reporters.
In other words, "I have no clue what I am talking about, but my daughters husband is real smart, If he can't bring peace to the middle east, no one can."

Seriously? About 800,000 of Iowa's 3.1 million people pulled a lever for Trump, so the lot of them can pretty much go to hell, in your view?
