And the earliest SD160s will be nearing retirement age by the time those 90 come in (who knows when).

I have ready this else where, why would the 8th Ave subway alleviate current problems? Would the NW/SW line eventually be routed there? Thanks

^Yes. It will allow the Northwest-South (red) line to no longer have to share 7th Avenue with the Northeast-West (blue) line. 7th Avenue is currently over capacity (can't fit any more trains on, and even current operations is too much unless things run perfectly). After 8th Avenue Subway is built, the red line will move into it while the blue line will remain on 7th Avenue.
This will effectively double overall capacity. More than double actually, since the subway should be able to achieve more throughput than the current 7th Avenue due to better construction, signalization and not having to stop at cross streets; and the existing 7th Avenue will see improvement on this too since there will be no more switching at both ends.
It's not so much the subway aspect (although that helps) as it is the act of making what is currently one route through downtown into two.

Wendy Walker says she was riding the train when she got suspicious after it seemed to be moving slower than normal.
While the train was travelling between the Zoo and Max Bell stations, she looked into the driver compartment and took two pictures of the driver holding what appeared to be a dayplanner in his hand while he looked down reading it.
A spokesperson for Calgary Transit tells Global News its policy is that operators cannot be reading anything when operating a moving bus or CTrain.

He's probably reading the policy book to find out whether he can read while operating the train.

Well of course. Do you think you can do it? Good luck pressing go and then pressing stop.

Transit fare survey if anyone's interested: http://survey1.calgarytransit.me/
Personally, I jacked up the price for seniors... you could be a millionaire and still get a big subsidy, and I don't think that's right.
Also, CT is claiming a $3.30/trip cost, I thought it was about $7? If it's $3.30, adult single trips are barely subsidized at all.

I also jacked up the low income and senior passes. I'm sorry, but the way they're priced right now is just absurd. With the boomers hitting 65+, there is no rational way I can see giving them a yearly transit pass for $95, especially when mine is going to cost $100/month in no time at all

You can easily double Transit's revenue target just by getting rid of the age based discounts, and the tool doesn't even let you reduce the Seniors discount passed 33%.
Income based discounts and subsidies are fine, age based ones are silly.

I can understand the 'outrage' of wealthy seniors buying subsidized passes (although is there any evidence that wealthy ones do?), but I always thought of it as us paying the fogeys to get off the road.
I'd be willing to offer an enfeebled elderly billionaire a free pass if it meant they weren't on the roads.

I hope they limit the amount of underground stations to 2 or 3 through the Downtown core. 1 at city hall, 1 in the centre and 1 on the west end. I'm sorry, you don't need a station every two blocks. It slows the train down and is a waste of money.

We can keep you off the roads by making you retake your driving tests and taking away your licenses if you fail!

to play devils Advocate I would guess the 65+ crowd is substantially less likely to use the train during peak hours. Most hotel rooms are cheaper on weekdays, just saying.

Just a heads up but it sounds like the trains have a major delay, especially going south. Shuttle buses between Erlton and Chinook.

That's an invalid comparison. A hotel room not rented for a night is income lost forever. A bus runs its schedule whether there are people on it or not.
