Eh I had fun for about 20 hours, which makes it solidly mediocre. This is nothing compared to how much time I've dumped in games that are supposed to have similar replay value (ie Civ, AoE, etc) however.

Curious, any issues buying a used copy of this game? Is it tied to your Origin account if you bought it physically?
I held off for a week or so until payday when it was released and the initial reviews scared me away from paying full price.

I would love it since this game is online, if one day when they have the max server load, say all 20 people that are playing this game have their cities nuked, and aliens destroy the Sim planet. Then a message comes up that states that all traces of the game are being erased from their hard drives.
When you phone up the EA they say "Sim City V? Never heard of it"

All this is disheartening to hear given the fact that I still boot up Sim City 2000 again and have a good time every now and then. That's 20 years of gameplay.
What could EA have done to make this a better game?

I rarely ever play video games but when i first saw trailers of sim city, i really wanted to buy this game. Then i read some reviews after first beta testing and decided to not buy it. turned out to be a really good decision

Remove online requirement, massively increase the city plot size, fix the terrible AI, give more basic options for transportation (subways, overpasses, etc). Basically rework the entire core of the game, which will never happen
The franchise of SimCity is pretty much dead now, thanks to how badly EA and Maxis screwed this up. No one will ever trust them to make another one

Allow for bigger cities would be one and actually delivering on what most of us assumed the glassbox engine was going to be would be the other. I really think the glassbox engine is broken though. Take the whole "sims just pick the closest job and house" thing for example. The average gamer won't design his city with that mechanic in mind. They can't because it doesn't make sense. How do you design a road or transit network around a mechanic that is completely random?

Bump.
Been playing a couple hours here and there- my game keeps crashing due to (I think) over-use of my CPU or GPU. Anyone experience this as well, and have any tips? I can get it to work if I turn down graphics settings to low, but I have a pretty decent card and would prefer to restrict the chips themselves rather than the game.

Are you using the latest drivers for your card and chipset?
Is this occurring during any other games or computer use or strictly when playing simcity?

Take SimCity v DVD
place on coffee table.
Place beer on top of said DVD and rename it the most expensive coaster in history
Enjoy the fall of civilization
As a side note I was in future shop on the weekend and saw that Sim City V has dropped from nearly $70.00 to $25.00.
I doubt much development is happening to fix that game now.

This disaster of a game looks good on EA sports. What a debacle.

Not that I am too familiar with SimCity's current state but price drops like that are extremely common for almost all PC games.

Sure, but this was a quick and radical drop, based on overall unhappiness with the game.

Not really. Battlefield 4 (another EA game) had only been out for a month when it dropped to 50% ($30) off during Black Friday. PC games see deep sales fairly quickly.
To put it in perspective, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3 are some games that released around the same time as SimCity and can often be had for less than $20.

I don't think they've fixed the logic problems of the game that made it terrible

One would think they would have learned their lesson when they made that steaming pile that was Sim City Societies.
SimCity 4 Deluxe (includes Rush Hour) continues to be the gold standard. Install a couple mods (the Network Add-on Mod is probably the most important one) and it's the pinnacle of city simulators. Cities XL made a valiant effort and had some neat features but missed the mark.
