Is the CMLC (Calgary Municipal Land Corporation) involved again, or is that still to be determined?
I recall that (somewhat controversially) CSEC wanted them off of the project, then we got those underwhelming renderings, and then everything fell apart anyway.
CMLC has done a good job with other big projects in the city, and I trust them much more than CSEC to deliver something that considers the entire district, and not just the one building.

They haven't determined the project's development manager yet.

CMLC seems competent based on the other projects they’ve done in Calgary. No way the Flames will work with them. Like 0%.
The flames will find the group that oversaw that monstrosity by McMahon or the group that did the brown monstrosity by COP and get them. Heck, they may even look to see if the company that does the truck layouts in the concourse can handle a bigger job.

CMLC was removed from the project last go around, I doubt they’ll be heavily involved this time. They may be included in discussion of the public and community related items but not the arena itself.

I don't believe CMLC had a representative at the press conference announcing this deal (while the city, province, Stampede, and CSEC all did), so that probably tells us all we need about their involvement in the project.

Would they have had a representative? They’re functionally just an arm of the City, while the City/Province/Stampede/CSEC are all completely distinct entities.
They’re still in charge of the entire district that the event centre is going to be located it, so I have doubts they’d be shut out completely, CSEC just seemed to have an issue with them as project manager.

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet. The city has released the excavation and site prep DP's for the new arena. See link below from SRC.

Stripping and grading permit issued for new arena... so it begins! No DP yet. This is like a quarter step (maybe more like 1/10) to a DP for the uninitiated.

edit: I've tried to make the tweet show up but can't figure it out lol

Stripping and grading is 10% towards a DP......got it. Any news on the arena?

Sounds like they have a brand new design for the arena now as well.

It'll be VERY similar to the previous design. Functionally, they took the 2021 design and spaced it out a bit. It'll be less squished onto the block since they have a lot more space.

So for absolute dummies like myself, what EXACTLY does this mean re: shovels in the ground?

Last time, they did one permit for everything, but couldn't do anything on the site until it was approved.
This time, they split up the work into different permits, so the excavation and shoring can be done as soon as those permits are approved, and then the actual building work once that permit is approved.
In short: they're still targeting post-Stampede.

Nice. What are they making bigger in this revised design?

I hope so. The last design was very “meh” , considering what other new arenas are starting to look like.

For those that didn’t click that The Familia link above. The second pic shows the area that will get shoring and excavation. The other areas of the building will be slab on grade. The building profile can kind of be figured out from both images but still just rough and wasn’t critical for the shoring permit. One of the notes has been that the ice level is lower from street level than it was in the last design.
