I was actually surprised to hear that choking the pitbull actually worked, it must have felt like an eternity though and was far too late anyway.

As the owner walked past me he said that his dog has issues with unneutered dogs. Judging by his haughty pumped up mannerism, I figured there was no point in saying anything to him.
Some people carry a "break stick" which can be inserted between the back molars of a pitbull's teeth and rotated to pry open the mouth of a pitbull that has clamped down on another dog.
I think, at a minimum, all pitbulls should be muzzled when in public.

Maybe extend that to when they are outdoors as they seem to be quite capable of escaping most yard enclosures.

The dog that was attacked died at the vet.

Why wouldn't you gouge it's eyes out? If it was my dog I would be using my car keys on it's eyes.

I doubt there's another breed of dog that would try to attack a 2000lb animal.

They caught her today, criminal negligence and a bunch of other charges. Dumber than a sack of hammers.

That other news story says that in Toronto, there are ~450 dogs in the City under and active dangerous dog order, and about 10% of them have been involved in serious biting or mauling.
I don't understand why the dogs are allowed to live in the city, except for maybe the small number that are trained guard dogs, but are kept well under control.

Tragically it appears an 11 year old boy was mauled and killed last night in Edmonton. Details remain limited but died on scene. What a tragedy. As someone who is a non pet owner, I am really starting to question the logic of a lot of dog owners in this regard. The types of dogs that can cause serious injuries and the types of dogs that can actually kill people need to be addressed.
During Covid everybody and their cousin decided to get dogs and now we have an explosion of these types of cases. We may need to start looking at SERIOUS jail time for dog owners who's animals cause life altering injuries and kill.
Lot's of this nonsense "Ohh, he is just a puppy, normally very quite and well behaved"

Dogs kill 11-year-old boy in southeast Edmonton: police
Two "very large dogs" killed an 11-year-old boy in southeast Edmonton Monday night, police said.
Police were called to a report of a dog attack in a home in the area of 82 Street and 11 Avenue S.W. just before 8 p.m.
"Upon arrival, officers located a severely injured 11-year-old boy who had been attacked by two very large dogs," the Edmonton Police Service wrote in a release on Tuesday. "Police attempted lifesaving measures until EMS attended the scene very shortly after and ultimately declared the child deceased."

Dog shot and killed after attacking Calgary officer
Police were called to a vacant lot in the 5000 block of First Street S.W. at roughly 10:30 a.m. for reports of a suspicious vehicle.
Acting Sgt. Jeff Dyck said arriving officers walked up to the vehicle, a motorhome, at which time a dog pushed its way through the doorway and attacked one of the officers.
"That officer was forced to discharge his firearm, and the dog was stopped at that point," he said.
The officer was taken to hospital with injuries to his hand.
Dyck said the dog "looks like a pit bull type."
Dyck says there were two people inside the camper, both of whom are in custody.

We need more responsible dog owners as well as banning dogs like Pitbulls.
Like adopting a foster kid, the home needs to inspected before someone is granted a dog. My neighbour owns a husky, has the smallest backyard with tiny fences, the dog is hardly every taken for walks. They just send him outside and he barks like crazy, starts coming at you. Oh he's just being friendly. Takes about 20 yells to finally get him inside.
These type of dogs do no belong in tiny enclosed homes.

The Edmonton dogs in question were Cane Corso’s, just for information.

had to google the breed.
holy crap they're huge, powerful animals. That kid wouldn't have had a chance with untrained dogs of that breed. seem to make pitbulls wimpy by comparison. twice the size on average and 3 times the bite force.

I assume they killed the owners kid, so that's a positive I guess. Why do these people like monsters living in their house? Dahmer was probably pretty cuddly at times as well.

The bottom of the article says the boy was visiting. Tragic, even if it was the owner's kid, but it wasn't.
