I used to go to a little pub in Northland Village mall to watch the odd game that wasn’t available locally

True. I don't think it will be this ugly until the end of the season, but this is what happens when you rebuild or retool to this extent. You have to go through the pain unfortunately.
I do think these past 2 games were a perfect storm though. No Zary or Pospisil, and the team does a lot better when they are playing.
Back-to-back games in the east. Both afternoon games. Plus an influx of players that have not had any time to adjust to yet. Not to mention, Florida and Carolina are really good teams.
I expect more losses than wins until the end of the season, but I also expect some good games mixed in there.

I don't see Pachal and Kylington having those kind of ugly games on a regular basis. Vladar needs more net time - he looked a little unready.

For whatever reason, their heads were spinning for most of the game and couldn't get any flow into their game. I don't think they are this bad. Maybe they're finally coming back to earth after riding high on adrenaline trying to maintain their competitiveness while losing the UFA's. They won't get a practice in until Wednesday and their next two opponents will be tough outs so they could be a couple more ugly games.

Yeah, he really needs to play more. Coming in cold and the team in front of him let him gat shelled and just threw the puck away all day in the defensive zone.
I'd prefer they give Vladar the net for a while so we can see more from him and to see if he can get into a groove if he plays more. If it works, great, we increase his asset value. If it doesn't work, then it helps the tank.

I agree. Just as they were not as good as they looked against Tampa Bay.
There is an old saying among diplomats: ‘Russia is never as strong as she looks. Russia is never as weak as she looks.’ You could say the same thing about almost any NHL team at any given time.
Remember last year, when the Bruins curbstomped the regular-season points record, only to go out with a whimper in the first round of the playoffs? Not as strong as they looked.
It was sensible to expect the Flames to lose these last two games, but not to be wiped out. They're not as weak as they look right now.
The way I figure it, team defence is bad not only because the best defensive pair is gone, but the forward lines are scrambled, the new defencemen hardly know each other, and Weegar and Andersson are taking it on the chin because they're not a shutdown pair but have to fill that role. Some of these things will sort themselves out, and we'll have a merely poor team instead of an embarrassing one.

Flames lose 6% in the playoff chances and sit at 22%
Need to go 14-2-2 to get in (.833)

This is abnormal? Vladar is what he is and it's proving to be a sub .900 backup with the occasional quality start mixed in.

Three very different games.
1) Tampa game ... home team doesn't show
2) Florida game ... Flames turn it over, but play reasonably well
3) Carolina game ... Flames torched
They won't get many Tampa games.
Hoping they don't get many Carolina games.
Guessing they lose at least 11 of their remaining 18, and could be worse than that.

Vladar was so mad about the loss that he changed his name to David.

Nah, he was worse than usual. And I think he's better than his numbers this year.

I hope I don’t hurt any feelings as I shift this section to draft position and away from the playoff hunt.
The Flames are eight points out with even games played, and now have three teams to pass to get there. They can only lose three more for the rest of the season. It’s over.
|
So this means that the Flames will go on a heater for the next ten games and then finish 13-5 after dropping the last three in a row to finish the season and pick #16.

Flames decided a Dan Vladar/David Rittich hybrid would be the the perfect backup. Turns out they were wrong.

Pachal has been struggling hard the past two games. And Kylington isn't far behind him. Coronato found a way to be -3 despite only getting 10 minutes of ice time.
