Rebuilders like calgary would look for the 8 year deal to get long term value.
Contenders would look for a short term deal to maximize short term value and a cheaper AAV.
He can play every forward position, PK, PP, and never gets hurt. 22 years old.
Again, your lack of understanding of what the NHL trade market actually looks like is interesting.

Ok, so, they couldn't come to an agreement then. It happens. Guess we'll see if they kiss and make up in the summer

says the kid that claims Flames fans have unrealistic expectations
You're not accomplishing anything (despite whatever it is you're telling yourself), so do everyone a favour and just stop. Or, if you need to keep posting, go back to capfriendly boards, where I am sure everyone loves and misses you

So you agree with me?!
You aren't doing yourself any favours here.
If you've been on CP for more than a week you'd know which team I root for.

Defensively yes Luke is worse than Graves, but don't blame replacing Graves and Severson with Him and Nemec for the devils lack of success.
Goaltending volatility and lack of play, coaching (specifically the horrific handling of goalies by ruff), injuries, and steps back by a few key players, specifically Siegs and Marino, were the major contributors.

Yep but everyone is locked up. Hughes might have best contract in the league. They need a goalie but it didn’t need to be now. Hamilton is gone for the year. Why buy now is all just because flames fans think it’s good both ways.

Imagine siding with the Devil's fan that just signed up to troll lol
NJ has less points than the rebuilding Flames, a team that considered themselves contenders. Their season is a disaster!

NJ is a mess right now and Fitz may be in trouble.
Lots of forward talent, but both goaltending and defense are still a long way from being playoff ready.

If not now when? When do you think there gonna be a vezina calibre goalie available? When a team is a great goalie away from going deep in the playoff, that team should jump at the opportunity. Not wait and hope some will fall on their laps again. Especially teams aren't asking for the Huges brothers nor they are asking for Hischier.

No, it needed to be a month or two ago.

The thing is the Devils aren't even out of the playoff picture. Just 6 out, and imagine if they had made a deal for a decent goalie weeks ago? Trading for a guy like Markstrom could have still given them a legit chance of making it, plus they'd have him for 2 more years. It did make sense for both teams for them to figure something out now, or a month ago. And there's no guarantee the Devils will even get a decent starter in the summer. So next year they could be stuck with more backups hoping someone steps up. Tough way to go for a team that looked good on paper (except in net) and should be trending upwards.

His ELC has run out and is having a regressive season. He’s not worth multiple 1sts. Know what he’s worth though? A top end goalie.

Yeah this is Mercer's last year on his ELC and is a RFA after this summer, you are correct. I wonder if the poster got him mixed up with Holtz, he still has one more year on his ELC left.

It’s a move. Not a good move or the best move. At the end of the day they get a new cheaper backup that has a low chance at rebounding and you get Markstrom in the offseason hopefully.
