Lightning have contract extension in place for Hanifin if trade can be completed

make sense but considering that was his #1 destination I doubt there was much negotiation needed

The Flames would have to grant permission for those negotiations to take place. It's hard to imagine that permission wouldn't be granted if a deal in principle wasn't already set up and the extension was the last piece of the puzzle.

Wouldn't this indicate that a deal is either done or really close, since Calgary would have to grant permission to speak with his representatives?

I don't think the contract was a big issue to get sorted. Flames pretty much had the framework done.

Hanifin and his agent doing everything they can to drive down the return the Flames will get.

Maybe BriseBois just had lunch with Hanifin's agent. They might have had some breadsticks.

This is still my guess.
I still think Florida is his first choice, Tampa Bay is his second choice, and all these "Tampa Leaks" are trying to bring Florida into the fray.

They might have to do more than raise their price. They are going to have to convince hanifin to sign an extension . If hanifin truly wants to be in Tampa then he only has to say he won’t sign extension with anyone.

I don't get why hanifin was so set on Tampa but fair enough.
Don't give the green light unless the return would match the player in a vacuum. Hope we arent in the business of giving players their preferred destination if it's not the best deal for the Flames also.
It's now or never for Florida. Only takes a lundell!

Do we think Zito wants to win at all costs ? And will out bid Florida?
This guy's reputation since dealing Huberdeau and Weegar makes him pretty ruthless but irresponsible? I guess we'll.see how this plays out

Florida is probably his first choice and Tampa is there to drive up the price. I just can't see a scenario that Lundell would be involved. Would love to have a Finn on the Flames though, it's been too long.

If the Tampa noise is in fact a ploy then that's brilliant work by the gm.
