Masters of the Air
This show needs its own discussion.
I’m quite enjoying it as it presents a different scope to the war that I’m not really all that familiar with.
The latest episode was a departure from the rest to date and I quite enjoyed how they portray the crews in different situations.

Good call buddy.
As I've posted in the TV thread I think this show has been at its best when it is in the air, however this latest episode was a very good ground based outing.
Which kind of sucks as there are only a few episodes left, and apparently one of them will have nothing to really do with the 100th.

I agree with this, but when the planes are in the air we really cant learn much about the characters.
The thing is, a plane in the air becomes the character. The Pilots fly, and they're bombers, so its pretty much 'fast and straight' its not exciting stuff.
Theres the navigator. He draws lines and stuff.
Theres the gunners and they're busy shooting so, you dont really deal with them much.
And theres the Bombardier who is kind of neat.
But you cant develop any characterization in that context. So the last episode was an interesting diversion from that, and I think thats good, but the show's best elements have been in the air.
Kind of walking a knife's edge.
It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here. On that note though...is it a limited series like Band of Brothers or is there possibility of a second season? Because if they could continue it, they could take a little more time on character development.

It's tough not to compare this to Band of Brothers and The Pacific. When I do it's just pales in comparison. Overall I don't mind it but with the people behind it I was hoping for more.
A friend said it best, this looks like Pearl Harbour compared to Saving Private Ryan.
It could be that I hate Austin Butler too.

It took me a while to get into this one as I found it a little to polished from the onset. I like the grittier aesthetic of BoB and The Pacific. But I'm glad I stuck with it as I'm quite enjoying it now.
It's such an interesting perspective of the war. These guys were basically flying in coffins. I couldn't imagine how they were able to sleep or basically function knowing they were likely going to die or be captured at some point. Just horrifying stuff. So I find it humorous that when they return from a mission they are greeted with doctors and nurses offering them shots of whiskey. Because why the hell not. Their nerves are probably shot lol.

I think it is good. It definitely falls short compared to BoB. I actually like it better than The Pacific though.
I think the biggest difference between this show and BoB for me is I have no idea who anyone is in MoA. BOB did a great job of showing the different perspectives of all the soldiers.
In MOA they are talking about guys who died and I have to google it to figure out which actor that was.
My Grandpa was a navigator in a Lancaster during WW2. He didn't talk about the war a lot, at least not around me, but he did mention being in the bubble and being shot at first by the enemy pilots. This puts a bit more perspective on what he went through, different planes I understand, but similar circumstances.
We will never have a generation like that again.

I have watched four episodes of the show, but I am not completely committed to it like I was with Band of Brothers. The show focuses on air battles, which can be challenging to follow due to their fast pace. Additionally, I find it difficult to differentiate between the planes and pilots, as they wear masks. However, I do want to become more invested in the show.

You make some good points, but I think I'll fall back on something I said about 'The Pacific.'
This one is going to have to end and require a fairly thorough re-watch in order to get to know the characters and maybe a better feel for the tempo of the show.
I almost feel that releasing one episode a week is actually hurting this show.
And again...I think its important to keep in mind that 'Band of Brothers' is essentially a 'TV Unicorn.'
Its going to take something really, really special to compare to that. Chernobyl, in my opinion, is the only show thats even gotten a sniff.

It's picked up a bit over the last few episodes. The prison camp scenes are something we usually do not get in shows like this.
The preview for next episode looks like a standalone Tuskegee Airmen episode. It will be interesting to watch an episode around fighter escorts, but it seems a little shoe-horned in as, to my recollection, the Tuskegee were in Italy and not Britain at this time. So it likely doesnt relate to the 100th?

Yeah this ones tougher to follow the characters because they are spanning a longer time frame than BoB and so many of these airmen died very quickly.
I plan to binge watch it again when it's completed.
I've seen BoB so many times now that I know every character immediately when they hit the screen, but I don't think it was like that the first time or two I watched it.

I'm not sure where the show is chronologically ATM so maybe they've shown it already, but the 100th did have a famous mission where they took off from Britain, hit targets in Germany and landed in North Africa, and the Tuskegee met them for a bit over Italy

Yeah that has been done.
They could be going back to that, and focusing on the fighter escorts; but i believe the 100th only did the 1 way trip once

Well the show has already fudged the facts a bit, when the captured airmen were attacked/killed in a German town. That event did happen, but Egan wasn't a part of it. I could imagine them showing some of the Tuskegee highlights even if the 100th wasn't technically involved historically speaking
