Saskatoon is so much better than Regina, despite having almost the same population... My wife and I find ourselves constantly thinking we should just move up to Saskatoon from Regina, as we miss the culture and food of Calgary, but not the big city life.

This.
There's this whole thing about how I hyperfocus on a specific detail, forgetting the overall topic. I was going to use "what if Bedard gets hurt" but instead I found myself focused on trying to convince people that Zary could lead the Flames in points... and was like, "well what if Kadri gets hurt?"
...annnnd then, fast forward a week or so and here I am seeing Bedard getting hurt, and I'm like... "dude, I literally said that and everyone was like you're on crack"
But as it turns out, I literally (as in actually literally) did NOT say that at all. As an added bonus, nobody was saying I was on crack about Kadri getting hurt - just about Zary leading the Flames in points, making me 0 for 2 on my "I told you so" moment.
I went back and re-read my posts yesterday and upon realizing all of this, I just slooowwly hit the back button and pretended none of this had happened.
Edit: And I would've gotten away with it too, if weren't for those kids! (and competent posters with decent memories and/or the ability to go back and read older posts)

As of yesterday...
- guy with 24 points in 42 games and -15: 36 vote-points (3rd place)
- guy with 22 points in 33 games and +13: 1 vote-point (not even mentioned in the entire article)
I officially concede in the argument that Zary has a chance at winning this. No matter what happens, the media is still the media.
Quote:
Voting totals (points awarded on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis): Connor Bedard, F, Chicago Blackhawks, 75 points (15 first-place votes); Luke Hughes, D, New Jersey Devils, 47 points; Adam Fantilli, F, Columbus Blue Jackets, 36 points; Brock Faber, D, Minnesota Wild, 24 points; Marco Rossi, F, Wild, 20 points; Pyotr Kochetkov, G, Carolina Hurricanes, 10 points; Pavel Mintyukov, D, Anaheim Ducks, 5 points; Joseph Woll, G, Toronto Maple Leafs, three points; Samuel Ersson, G, Philadelphia Flyers, 2 points; Dmitri Voronkov, F, Blue Jackets, 2 points; Connor Zary, F, Calgary Flames, 1 point.

If Zary was on the oilers or leafs though he’d be right up there.

It's so strange that media outside of Calgary aren't closely following a small market team with no game-breaking stars.

If the Flames deal Lindholm before the TDL (ideally they will). I'd love to see Zary get serious minutes centering Huberdeau and Sharangovich! Could really boost his points numbers too!

The Athletic has Zary tied for 4th in their midseason Calder rankings. Scott Wheeler has him 6th, Harman Dayal has him 4th.
Quote:
T4. Connor Zary — C, 22, Calgary Flames
Stats: 37 GP, 9 G, 13 A, 22 PTS, 15:27 ATOI
Wheeler’s ballot: 6th
Dayal’s ballot: 4th
Zary’s a tricky one because he’s played nine or 10 fewer games than the other skaters to this point, which amounts to about 20 percent of the year so far. At the end of the season though, that’s likely to have shrunk to about 10 percent. It becomes a lot easier to make apples-to-apples arguments about 70 versus 80 games than 37 versus 47. Still, he deserves continued consideration at this stage based on his play. Of the six rookie forwards who made our list, he’s still tied for fourth in total points even though he has played the second-fewest games. He’s also third in points per game at 0.59 behind only Bedard (0.85) and Carlsson (0.67). Though he missed 10 games, his rates across 72 games pace to 18 goals, 26 assists and 44 points. That’s still probably not going to be enough for a nomination but it might land him fourth or fifth on some ballots when it’s time for the real thing and the 10-player ballots we’ve created for this exercise are cut in half.
He has also just looked like a good NHL player right away. His effort and skill have given the Flames a nice boost, his on-ice results look good, and while NHL Edge data reveals he’s not the fastest player out there it also shows that his skating, once cause for criticism, has been about league average. — Wheeler

Was robbed of a goal against Toronto too for that so-called "hand pass".

Just a reminder the Oilers took Holloway 14th and Zary was available at 24.

How does a player on a PP with the most SH goals against and who doesn’t play on the PK end up with such a high +/-?
