Well with all due respect, this is the same Roger Millions who basically laughed at those of us (myself included) who thought there was no way Tanguay was going to get less then 5 mill a season. Think he called us crazy.
Yeah, IIRC he said $3M, $3.5M, $3.8M for a 3 year deal.

Sorry, that isn't what I meant. I was referring to En Fuego's argument about the Smyth situation "working out for us" - ie: we sign Smyth.
Frankly, I do not think that it is possible to keep Iggy and sign Smyth. Especially when other contracts are taken into consideration. Given the choice, I'll keep Iginla any day over signing Smyth.
The "Smyth situation", in this context, I believe is that Iginla knows that if he doesnt reach a deal, he could find himself where Smyth did: in a different uniform at the deadline. Given his somewhat adversarial stances in the past when it comes to negotiations, it is a very good sign for us if Iggy believes that signing an extension is so important that he has opened negotiations himself without waiting for Sutter to make the first move.
Exactly. And even went so far; even if joking, to mention that he doesn't need the home run 9mil. So while that figure is tongue in cheek, it shows he knows about the money issues and yet he still says he wants to be back. Shouldn't read too much into that, but at least not discouraging!

In 2004, Conroy alluded the fact that he tried to make a pack-deal with Iginla to Sutter for both to stay.
Maybe similar salary to ensure Iginla is here post-2008? Who knows.

With all due respect to rmillions, he sometimes thinks he knows everything. He has been wrong before, he is human after all, and I definately think he will be wrong again. I see Stuart staying in Cowtown.

He said somebody ont he inside who knows Stuart said Stuart admitted that to him.

Based on his remarks, I don't think it is even a probably. I take him at his word - he won't make a decision until he sees what is being offered.
He strikes me a someone who wants to see what happens in free agency. He qualified himself by saying he wants to go to a team that can win, it won't just be money.
Wouldn't that discount LA (and EDM)?

Right now, yes that would take Edmonton out by a MILE!
Good to hear about Jarome, I think he really is a modest guy and knows full well money isnt everything when your doing quite well already. I actually know he used to live in a modest house in the innercity area I grew up in for a while not sure if he still does but at the time he had cashed out and could have had something much bigger. Just seemed to suit him though.

Personally I want Kimmo Timonen as my first choice but I think he's all but gone to Philadelphia. The Flyers have a boatload of money and Timonen's brother is on the Flyers organization so they can play together. In terms of Stuart, it could be a situation where they lose Hannan and sign Stuart back. Stuart will either sign in Calgary or San Jose imo.

Unfortanetely Iginla has always been a difficult player to sign. He has a very high profile agent. If I remember correctly Iginla has held out before when he was a RFA. I would be shocked if Iginla's contract is worked out quickly. I bet its Iginla saying all the right things.

The last one was pretty quick I thought. I seem to remember him also saying that Sutter respected him enough to not low ball him and that his first offer was reasonable.

They have to wain until after July 1st I do believe. That's when "next year" officially begins for contracts and will be the first opportunity to sign an extension.
If I'm reading Section 50.5 (f) of the NHL CBA correct, contract negotiations on an extention can only take place during the final season. So that would push the start date to October or thereabouts.
Location: I ain't playing nose tackle in a 3-4 defence

Conversely I dont' think San Jose has room for both Stuart and Hannan. So if they want to sign Stuart a guy like Hannan is on the market. If they have a nice run here they may decide that they really like Hannan.
As well built as the Sharks are, they have as big or bigger contractual issues facing them in 2008 summer as the Flames. Thornton, Marleau, Toskala being UFA, and Michalek, Pavelski, Clowe,Bernier, Carle, and Erhoff as RFA's.

The one thing I don't understand is when a player wants a few hundred grand extra. If you know how to invest your money, etc, you could be making a killing every year on top of hockey.
