I like Scheifele as a player but his locker room stuff.. no thank you.
I’d way rather Barzal. I’ve always thought of him like a Gaudreau playing Centre. Quick feet and quick hands.

How does the buy out cap hit work with the retained salary? If we buy him out does some of the buy out cap hit count against the Oilers books? That would be epic.

Sometimes people need a fresh start.
Again, noted humanitarian Evander Kane could break the playoff goals record by game 4 of the 3rd round - Scheifele had 70 points in 67 games, on a bad team, while being miserable.
Winnipeg will do that to a man.

Yes.
Fresh start, strong room, #1C in his prime.

Yes, Calgary would save about $1.33M in cap hit next year.
With having to replace Lucic, the amount of savings would be minimal.

Scheifele, Lindholm, and Backlund 1-2-3 down the middle would be absolutely terrifying for the opposition.

To be able to move Backlund, Coleman, and Mangiapane down to 3rd (2B) line would absolutely be lethal. Dube and Toffoli would do just fine with Scheifele.
The idea would be to get Monahan gone, replaced with a center or versatile center/winger with Dube. Preferably a playmaking one too. Pavelski is my #1 target this free agency, with Monahan gone to a team that can take him on for a year.

I'd rather have Nate, but we are being realistic

It would be nice depth, but do you really think teams would be shaking in their boots playing Calgary?

I think that Scheifele's locker room issues are that he's a "Principal Skinner" type. I bet he'd get along with Sutter.

Any deal also has to factor in the value if gaining/losing cap space.
Personally, I doubt M Tkachuk hits 100 pts again. He benefited this season from playing with Gaudreau -who had a career year himself
Batherson
#7 OA
for
M Tkachuk
Valimaki
Batherson is 24, signed for five more seasons, and with 44 pts in 46 games last season already out-performing the $4.95 mil contract he signed in the fall. Put him on the top line with Gaudreau and it wouldn’t be a reach to pencil him in for 75-80 pts.
Flames get $4-5 mil cap space to help get a #2C or top D.
I don’t think the Flames are interested in a rebuild, so I could see Treliving flip the #7 OA in a deal for an established top-3 D.
|
This is bad. Batherson had one decent run so far and I am not sold in him. That and he is a RW, we need C help or another top pairing D. People are giving up on Valimaki much too soon.
