Default Jeff Friesen withers in Washington (Old thread)

Washington Post story wondering how or if Jeff Friesen fits into the plans of the Capitals . . . . . sounds like trade bait.

Chris Simon for Jeff Friesen. Ducks for cover.

You won't need to give them a body for Jeff, Lanny. They only paid a draft pick if I remember correctly and he has been struggling all season because of injury. Heck, Chris Frigging Clark is their new first line winger.

The Flames could sure use his speed and he has a history with Darryl Sutter.

Is it good history, though? I can't remember anything being said about their past relationship.. Anyone know?

Default Friesen, could be a good pick

this guy is fast, true that his work ethic is questionable when a team is down, but he always did well over all. I'd trade Simon in a heartbeat for him. For someone that is supposed to be a force on the ice, he's nowhere to be seen.

Why would Washington want Simon? Protection for Ovechkin?

They're more likely to want to trade Friesen for a young player, I would think, given their rebuilding mode.

I think that you could get Friesen for a third rounder, given it will be a late round pick. Washington will not want to pick up any salary just for the sake of picking up salary. To trade Simon in the deal would probably cost a second rounder, with maybe getting a fifth round in return.

Not to mention that Simon will be a UFA, right? Has no value to non-playoff teams.
So Leclerc is an upgrade over one of Simon and Wiemer as he fits the same mold but would Friesen fall into that category? Him coming would help the team speed which some see as an issue.

Depends how much Value Friesen has right now. With the way he has been playing can Washington even expect a prospect? At least this way they'd lose some Salary.

Anyways, I'd bet Simon goes back to Wash in the off season.

We could get him for a fourth rounder tops. His numbers this year have all but killed all his value. I have always like this guy and i think i could see him as one of the players sutter could be targetting provided he can dump someone like weimer or simon out of the loop to manage cap space. He would definetly improve team speed and add another capable offensive body. The question is though would it just be better to go and get that top notch guy then try to mold another player into a performer? I think so.

I know for a fact that Sutter loves Jeff Friesen.

The rumor was that Sutter was trying to land him when he was sent to Washington (the rumor didn't come from Eklund either)

as a person...or a player?

One thing about Sutter....

He places great value on a player's playoff performances.

Jeff was less than accomplished in San Jose under Sutter, in the playoffs....and I believe it ultimately led to him being traded.

1997-98 San Jose Sharks NHL 6 0 1 1 2
1998-99 San Jose Sharks NHL 6 2 2 4 14
1999-00 San Jose Sharks NHL 11 2 2 4 10

Well I wouldn't give up any more than a 5th pick for him, and I still would only do it as a very last resort just prior to the dead line. I was advocating for him prior to the season, but in hindsight it's been a very schrewd move to have not aquire him. 2.3 million for a guy with 2 goals and 2 assists this year.....And we think Simon has been bad.

Please don't bump really old threads. If it's of note create a new thread as to why its of note and include the link to the old thread. Otherwise suddenly it looks like there's some news about Friesen in Washington. Just confusing.
