That's a shame. Guess the land will sit unused for a while. Any news from insider folks on when Northland Mall Redevelopment will begin. Was on pace to be completed by 2020 but with a little under 2 years to go I don't see it happening

I missed it but apparently last night Brookfield Place had two sides of the crown lit up purple. Maybe check it out tonight to see if they have it lit up again.

Drove down 6th Avenue last night just after 11 and didn't notice anything but I was driving, and not paying too much attention to the buildings.

Crown lighting is on right now, at least the north and west exposures that I can see. Red lighting so far.

Currently a blend of teal/blue/purple chasing across on the west side from my vantage point.

Saw some tweets from the event about it today, the developer was including its design in the same breath as The Bow, Telus Sky, and the Peace bridge...yeah no.

Is it actually going to have tufts of "hair" growing out of the top, or is that like simulated lens flare or something?

Interesting... I've never heard of the Calgary Rising initiative. This hotel is part of that.

This is a rendering / concept. Not final.

Allow me to rephrase. Are the tufts in the rendering supposed to be interpreted as something that would be physically there, if the concept were to be made final? If so, what would they be? Painted rebar? Fibreglass? An extension of the a transparent panel with a painted gradient? What is it supposed to represent? Or is this just something they did to the rendering that isn't actually part of the structure (like when they put the vanishing points too close and make right angles look acute)?

SebC, I'm sure that's just rendering fluff...I doubt it will be anything. Just like there won't be two random trees at the top.
It's a Gibbs Gage design though. So it's going to have a dozen things going on visually, and none of them will be particularly well executed.

That's one ugly building in my view. Add it to the list.

Brookfield was fine and actually quite striking....until they got to the top and added some metal grating looking crap that didn't flow with the glass and totally killed the whole thing.
If they could have just gone glass to the top and rounded it off with a thin topper it would have looked incredible.
It literally looks unfinished.

Telus Sky will look decent but also became a victim of changes after the renderings came out (or incorrect renderings, not sure which in this case). They had the beautiful full glass look that made it stand out, then switched to the black casing style around all the windows.
Now it just kind of fades into the mass of tall buildings around it (it has a big building behind it in almost any view in the city). The black casing really decreases the perception of the window sizes and highlights each small looking window at the same time.
Pretty big miss due to one exterior decision.
