The purse for Shaw is $2.3M.

The purse for the Canadian Open is $6.0M.

That money has to come from somewhere.

The Shaw event has had no problem raising $2.3M purse plus an additional $2-5M in charitable donations each of the last four years, with sponsorship increasing during a brutal economic climate. I don't think there would be any issue with the Canadian Open raising the necessary funds if it came through Calgary on a rotation every 4 years or so.

Humble Brag Time. Well maybe not that humble, I'm stoked!

I golf quite a bit. I've played around 40 rounds this season have always struggled to improve. I started the season at a 24 index or so and worked it up to a high of 27.6.
Today I write this with my glass of wine in hand and can tell you I am now a 15.4 index.

Feels good man, feels good.

Played a round this morning. First on the course as a single. Played in 2 hours 15 minutes. My kind of round!

Front 9 greens at Lynx are almost back to normal. Played 27 yesterday and putted pretty well.

Back 9 greens are still in rough shape because of the timing of the rain after aeration.

I keep pretty detailed statistics on my golf game, and I've been playing seriously and keeping a handicap since 2010. I grew up golfing and played 2-3 rounds a year until 2010. Since then, in the past 8 seasons, I've played 340 rounds.

When I started keeping my handicap in 2010 I was a 21.5 handicap, and I've worked it down to 7.8 as of today. Countless hours spent on the golf course, driving range and putting green.

My average score over those 8 seasons is 87.7 and it has been consistently going down.

2010: 92.9 (43 rounds)
2011: 89.7 (44 rounds)
2012: 89.9 (54 rounds)
2013: 87.2 (59 rounds)
2014: 86.2 (45 rounds)
2015: 84.1 (41 rounds)
2016: 85.3 (28 rounds)
2017: 83.7 (26 rounds)

I've shot 75 twice, once at Canyon Meadows on August 20, 2015 and once at River Spirit September 17, 2013.

Best round of 2017 so far has been 76, July 31 at Lynx Ridge.

Got out for first full round this year on Friday. Shot an 89 at claresholm with an eagle on the last hole.

Pretty nice course and it was $31 with cart!

I have some time Friday in Red Deer and want to get out for a round. I haven't golfed in red deer in years and only remember Alberta Springs and River Bend. Anyone have a suggestion on where I should play ??

Innisfail is the nicest course in the area but a bit of a drive. Alberta Springs is usually in good shape, last time I played Riverbend it wasn't in the greatest condition.

Alberta Springs punched and top dressed their greens recently. They were awful, it was like a game of plinko. I'd do Innisfail if you can.

^ innisfail is worth the drive.

I played serenity yesterday for and have the following thoughts:

- greens were in good shape and pretty quick
- my friend is a member, so I apparently got a reduced green fee of $64 a thought that was good value. They also gave me a card for $15 off my next round
- lots of holes seemed similar - up and down
- the signature holes - monty's rut (11, 12 & 13) were hard
- they seemed committed to building a nice clubhouse and making the whole place very nice
- great access for those that live in the south part of calgary

Memberships seem like a solid deal - as it is something like $6800 down that can be spread out over 4 yrs interest free and something like $2500 annually. Membership here allows you to play heatherglen and access the driving range and little devil at blue devil. You also get discounted green fees at some other courses like gleneagles.

The membership apparently does not contain any allowances for cash calls.

The above stuff on membership is based on what I was told and I am relaying it.

Might have to make the trip to Innisfail then..

What course is better to play at Wolf Creek? The old course or the links?

Lacombe is a great value and a nice mature course as well.

I have only played the Old Course and it was pretty tough and in good shape.

^ wolf creek is very difficult. I would not recommend going there unless you have a handicap of less than 15 otherwise the course will just punish you....

Well, then I won't have any concerns!

Just potentially driving from Edmonton to Red Deer on Thursday and have always drove passed but never played.

some guy at our course was trying to set up a trip to Innisfail this weekend, I've never been there. Planned on going but not sure if there was enough interest.

We have some brain dead idiots working for the Nanton golf course. All the cups on the greens this morning were improperly cut. One side of the hole would have a sharp edge to it and the other side would be shaggy. Then you had a few holes where the pin was at the back of the green with a white flag when it should have been blue
