So if it were me coming up with a strategy for a winning hockey team, I don't understand the 8 year deal. Wouldn't it make sense to sign as many top guys as you can for shorter terms for less money? Put together a team that can win in a couple years with lots of good players, as opposed to paying a few guys for 8 years and not winning becuase you are out of cap space? The advantage is, if you have a winning team you are more likely to get someone like McDavid to re-sign after 5 years if he has a cup with the team? Am I missing something really obvious here? Paying the high premium for more years sounds like shooting yourself in the foot.

Seems to fit perfect IMO, carpet definitely matches the drapes with the bland giant letters and the tiny maple leaf representing the magnificent "River Valley" .

I wonder if Edmonton knows that the majority of cities across Western Canada have a river valley... Calgary has two.

No. Good.

I'm guessing even Ken King could beat that timeline for that result.

True… but the beauty of the river valley in Edmonton is that in most places, it's so deep you can't see the dump of a city from there. This is a considerable advantage.

I read that too, my first though was:
"Why are they shouting EDMONTON at me?"
And then I had to double-check the source and look around the room to make sure Ashton Kutcher wasnt going to jump out at me and scream 'Punk'd!!'
But alas no.....oh Edmonton...the gift that just keeps on giving.

It seems most likely that McDavid's contract is signed and will be announced today. What remains hilarious is that in spite of universally consistent reports about the term and value of McDavid's deal, Oilers fans are still guessing that he will sign for an $11–12 m cap hit. Additionally humerous is the hope that the team will announce extensions for BOTH McDavid and Draisaitl today.
There is the smell of crushing despair today in Edmonton.

I would actually like 5 years at $11-12M more than, 8 years at $13.5 as Flames fan.
UFA McDavid leaving Edmonton is the dream.

Thats just the alleys around Roger's Arena. Takes a while for that stench to dissipate.

Was Katz there, awkwardly welcoming Connor to another 8 years in Edmonton while staring at his crotch?
