I imagine TSN jacked their offer knowing RSN who has to be tight for money these days with the National NHL deal not really working out for them. I believe the Flames current deal with RSN goes near 2020 so it's probably unfortunate they signed that deal when they did as I imagine TSN would have offered them more money than they are getting from Rogers. Could you imagine a full regular season Flames TV schedule in real 1080 instead of the below par telecasts from Rogers. Maybe even the TSN could have their audio sorted out as well unlike Rogers who seems to struggle with everything.

Hickey mentioned in the article that Bell matched the offer that Sportsnet put forth. This is exactly what Bell did to TVA Sports during the negotiations for the coveted Habs' regional french language rights.

Flames really screwed their themselves when it comes to broadcast quality with the Rogers deal. The only good thing about it is the PBP team.

Yeah it appears TSN had the right to match and did. Also didn't realize that RDS pays $1 million per game to televise. No wonder the Habs bring in so much money as that's a pretty good deal for an NHL franchise.

I can't find a link but thought the flames regional tv deal was up soon? Though I think the flames and oilers had matching deals with SN so we'll probably get hosed because of the lotto losers, tsn will bend over trying to get mcdavid and the flames will not be the big prize.

I believe they signed matching 10 year deals starting with the 2010-11 season. If that's correct, there's still 3 years left.

TSN needs to step up and pay up. Can't blame the Flames for going with the highest bidder.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does TSN not have?
Canucks, Flames, Coilers?

If TSN comes in and drives the price up Rogers might have to decide between the Flames and Oilers. Given the McDavid factor and the whole Rogers Place thing there's a good chance the Flames could end up on TSN when this current deal expires.

Unless TSN goes for the home run and overbids to win the Oilers rights leaving the Flames with RSN scraps.

Was a terrible move by management to sign a 10 year deal back then. Canadiens deal comes up every few years and I'm sure keeps going up and up. Meanwhile the Flames (and Oilers) are back getting paid 2010 dollars. Will be a double whammy if the rights bubble pops before the deals end and the Flames get the short stick on the deal again.

I can understand if it's like the Rogers national contract where the NHL would take the money and run in a once in a lifetime contract but I'm not sure why the Flames and Oilers felt it was a great idea to lock in for a decade. Maybe there's some animosity towards TSN by the two organizations?
