Jay's top prospects are a A and AA level
They do have some talent coming up in the system, will need a couple more years (i.e. Vlad Guerrero Jr)
Jays at this rate, will need to start to think of a rebuild.
If Morales goes on the DL for a lengthy time... they simply are out of options.

If the Jays wanted Edwin, he'd be here. Simple as that. At least have the balls to come out and say that as an organization instead of doing your best to make it look like's he's the bad guy who chose to leave.

They insinuated tons of times that they wanted Edwin back even after they signed Morales. That is pure BS. They ran those "timeline" articles through sportsnet after.
The fact of the matter is, the Jays made an offer they knew Edwin wouldn't take until he saw what market was, quickly signed his replacement essentially the minute free agency started and quickly pulled the offer when they saw he might actually take it.
Quit with the whole charade. If they wanted him, he'd be here. Don't make the offer and pull it, simply say we are moving on and do so.
What's done is done, and there's no point debating it again, but that interview sure doesn't make it look like Edwin simply chose to go to Cleveland.

Really the regret goes both ways.
You could argue if he really wanted to be here he would have taken the 4 year, $80M offer that the Jays offered.
Sure they pulled the offer once they signed Morales but they thought that Encarnacion wouldn't sign here for what they were willing to spend and went and got a replacement.
How much #### would you be giving the Jays if Morales signed somewhere else because the Jays wanted to wait for EE's answer, and then Encarnacion ended up getting a big offer a week into free agency from Boston and went there anyways. Free agency opened the 8th and Morales signed on the 11th, if EE really wanted he could have come back after testing the market for a couple days and realizing it was soft.
The only thing that Encarnacion regrets is that Boston didn't come calling with a $100M+ contract offer that he thought he could get.

EE needs to quit the whole charade of 'Jays were hasty' or 'They didn't let me test out free agency'. If EE wanted to be here, he would have signed that contract without hesitation. 4-years/$80 million isn't chump change. It was a fair offer but instead he wanted to leave the Jays hanging while he fielded better offers. Who knows if Morales would have been available 2-3 weeks after or whenever the Jays would have heard from EE that he is signing a better deal, if available. Simply say that you have moved on.
What's done is done, and there's no point debating it again, but that interview sure makes it look like Edwin and his agent messed up because the best offer they received was from the Jays.

While that ended up being the best offer, no one at the time figured it would be. Not a single person or media outlet thought he'd be signing for a lesser offer. This is why it's easy to say it wasn't a legitimate offer by the Jays, which is further substantiated by the fact that they pulled it almost instantly when it was determined that he may sign it. The Jays didn't even give him a day to mull it over. Given what Edwin has done for this franchise and the respect the fans have for him, that's pretty pathetic action by the Jays. Actions like this are why the Jays organization and management have very little respect around MLB despite what some seem to believe here.
Baseball isn't hockey. It's not a free agent frenzy where everyone signs in the first couple of hours. It takes weeks. Players wait forever to be free agents and they are absolutely going to see what's out there on the market after waiting forever to have that option. I can see giving Edwin a couple days or a week before moving on, but giving him an offer than turning around and signing Morales the minute free agency opens is ridiculous. I think Morales was actually the first reported signing in the league.
What pisses me off in signing Morales though isn't that they chose him over EE, it's that they continued to string out that they were negotiating with Edwin through their media outlets even after they signed Morales. That was completed BS. Zero change of bringing back EE the minute Morales was signed. Like man up and say you made a choice and move on.
I can see taking Morales over EE if it meant we could strengthen other areas of need, but then to go out and do nothing with the pen and sign Steve Pearce to fill our outfield is beyond ridiculous and basically demonstrated just how "invested" the Jays were in actually winning a championship in their last couple of years of window. They wanted to do enough to just be competitive and keep 40k bums in seats while slowly shedding salary over the next two years.
Make no mistake about it either, the Jays wanted absolutely nothing to do with Bautista this year. They had no choice though when no other team picked him up. Losing and him and Edwin when it could be argued they both wanted to come back would have been a monumental PR nightmare for Rogers.

Morales is just one of a few guys that fit in the same hole. I think he was a decent replacement, but I have no issue with losing him over potentially signing Edwin. Edwin is irreplaceable from a fan perspective, on field perspective, and likely a locker room perspective among the current Jays. Morales is just one of several guys that you could insert into a DH position and at 11M the Jays could have had their pick of any of the tier 2 free agents they wanted, most of which lasted on the market for some time.

If the early season returns mean anything the Jays probably dodged a bullet on EE. He's on pace to have his worst season since 2010/2011.

You mean like every April? We'll see what he's doing by the end of the year when he's through his terrible April and has a chance to adjust to playing at Jacobs Field (or whatever they call it these days) which will probably knock his HRs down a bit from Rogers Center.
In his last 7 days he's batting .316 with a home run.

How about Kevin Pillar though, and his new approach at the plate?
Remains to be seen if he can continue doing what he's doing, but he's on pace to completely destroy his career highs and averages in Avg, OBP, SLG OPS, walks, etc.
Good on him if he can.
Too bad the rest of the line up went to #### and/or got hurt.

Smoak, Carrera, Pillar all hitting well. Imagine these guys were going last year when the rest of the offense was living up to expectations.
