then it's just for things I already have and easily did myself.

now if they will pay for an electrician to come in and get rid of the fluorescent lighting I have and replace it with something else, then we're talking.
They are doing that

No way. Are they supplying the lights too? Like the fixtures I mean?

UPDATE:
nstant rebates on energy-efficient products will soon help Albertans save money and power. The rebate program is the latest announcement through Energy Efficiency Alberta's Residential Retail Products Program.
The rebates apply to products such as LED light bulbs, low flow faucets, programmable thermostats and smart power bars.

So if you want it free, you get the government to do it. If you want to do it yourself, you just get a discount...

so are you saying that as part of the program, they will rewire the fluorescent fixtures and then install LED bulbs in them?

there is nothing on the website for available products that indicates this will be the case.

https://www.efficiencyalberta.ca/res...arge/products/

can you please provide a link to where this is true?

Pretty sure they're just replacing bulbs.

This is so mind boggling...

http://www.inews880.com/2017/04/25/a...ient-products/

There are some hilarious stories of Ecofit coming to your house, not having ladders to change bulbs, not having the right bulbs, not being able to change the power bar because the wrong stuff was plugged in to the existing one, not giving bulbs to fixtures that had no existing bulb and not changing the thermostat because they didn't know if the existing one qualified to be changed.

I hope they just cancel this disaster before it costs too much money. Just go with the rebate like everyone else suggested in the first place.

I have not, and I was one of the first to register.

On Danielle Smith's radio show this morning she read a letter from a homeowner who recently had Ecofitt come out to do the assessment. Turns out it wasn't quite what they expected.

http://www.newstalk770.com/audio-on-demand-2/

Date: April 26.
Time: Start listening around the 9:42 am.

In summary:

- Only 1 type of light bulb is provided.
- It's a one for one trade. They will not install light bulbs into empty sockets.
- Powerbars are only provided if they are connected to a TV. They will not replace powerbars connected to a computer.
- They will take a picture of your thermostat and someone will contact you if you qualify for a replacement.
- Only one type of showerhead is provided.

The NDP should just make this their official motto.

I LOL at that 880 News headline "Alberta NDP offer instant rebates..." Umm, the Alberta NDP are offering nothing, it's a government program and a boondoggle at that.

If I am understanding correctly I can go load up on LED bulbs to replace my old cfl's and incandescent bulbs at what appears to be a price of $0.99 each? There is no limit to this, so I could for example buy enough to outfit my folks home in Saskatchewan at the Alberta taxpayers expense as well? This will make out of province shoppers happy to participate.

I will never change my shower head to low flow. That's a non-negotiable. Thinking of that Seinfeld episode.

Wait I'm not seeing any of this in the article you linked.

Are you saying you're talking random internet comments as gospel truth?

BC and Sask both have similar rebated stuff for sale. But you're right. There is a weird limit of 25 units per transaction. So you'll have to buy the first 25 bulbs, then go get in line again. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Damn. You really got me there. I said "stories" for a reason. I didn't expect anyone would appreciate my second hand story from my adoptive parents who love Trump. The Eco guy was who came to their house without a 20 foot ladder was soooo stupid. Anyway, the Danielle Smith story sounds about the same. I'll get you that peer reviewed study when it comes out though. Promise.

The government should just admit that they screwed this thing up and cancel the program. Send each household $100 to use for buying LED light bulbs.

You know that people will spend it on something else, right?

I'd set it up with a big-box store for people to go in and buy their own materials from approved stock and they're either free or an easy method of reimbursement has been established. As should have happened from day 1 instead of this ill-conceived, wasteful, inefficient program.

It's almost as if these people have never governed before.

Oh, right.
