Getting rid of King would be the best off-season move.

Guys, he's the CEO and directly responsible for all aspects of the organization, he has the right to understand what's happening below him and give approval otherwise its his head on the line.

Meddling in hockey ops? Seems like a rumour more than anything.

And calgary next, yes it sucks. Personally I think it was just a front for whatever plan B is. No one could be that dumb to put out a plan like that.

The Fact that he got Burke and Tre here is something we shouldn't forget.

Wow. If true, that is scary. Good for Tre for standing up for his rights.

This. If Treliving re-signs, it's such a win for this organization just due to the fact of knowing that the old bag King has no involvement in his future moves.

^do you mean re-signs? If Treliving resigns due to King's meddling it would be a disaster.

Also, if it's true King is the reason Bishop was not a Flame he should be fired.

I still can't believe he tried to pass CalgaryNEXT off with a drawing straight out of a comic book. after looking deep I just see a smokescreen, King knew west village/CalgaryNEXT would never make it so why spend money on a real plan right?

I love this, what are you thinking? As if he's going to read this and then go "Oh yeah ok, I'll forfeit all this income/career etc because some dummy on the interwebz said so. He does bring up valid points."

He has done a terrible job with the new building. Glad he stepped back and let Burke run the hockey operations but as soon as he threatened moving the team he needed to be the one to move on.

We all knew the West Village was the spot the Flames wanted for 6-7 years. He sat in the proposal several years too long and due to how ambitious it is must have known something like that would take a decade to sort out.

He seems like a very nice well spoken man but I have not been impressed with how he has handled this arena project

The meddling in hockey operations is just the cherry on top IMO, he deserves to be let go for how poorly he has managed the stadium situation over the last 10 years.

Just ridiculous.
Actually from my observations this is far from the case after speaking with a few people that have worked for or had interactions with him. However being a nice guy doesn't have a lot of relevance for his job description so that would be one of the last things I would use as a reason to fire him. I doubt he's going to be going anywhere since he's a confidant of Edwards and the business side of the organization has never been better since he was hired. Do I wish he could stay out of the hockey and football decision making? Absolutely, but unless Edwards sells the team we just have to accept he's not going anywhere.

I dont know if that rumor is true but my blood starts to boil thinking about BT having a deal for Bishop in place but not being able to get approval in time. Then having the Flames being swept in round 1 mainly because of goaltending being a major letdown.

If thats true it had better be enough of a reason to stop the meddling or need for approval on hockey decisions from a newspaper guy.

That tidbit about the Bishop trade is shocking if true, I don't buy it though. Burke would not stand for that kind of crap. If it is indeed true, this management team(Burke and Tre) is as good as gone.

This is the same guy who had to go on the radio years ago when Feaster was the GM and say that he wasn't actively meddling in Hockey Ops.

This smoke has followed Ken King for years and it is probably true. If the guy shouldn't be sacked for this, it should be for the Calgary Next / Jersey debacle.

I won't get into what is happening because I don't know.

I can see ownership in the loop on a lot of things, so maybe it's a bit of an over reaction to be upset. I would assume most sports owners through a proxy want to be consulted on large ticket contracts or big trades, but I would hope that the issue would be dollars and impact to budget and not evaluation of hockey talent and team building.

To me that's the issue.

The biggest complaint I have with him currently is letting Treliving's contract hang out there until its near expiry. Clearly he's done a good job, and 29 other teams don't let it go down to the wire. What was to be gained by having one of the better GMs potentially leave, and what would the optics be to other credible candidates in the future?

He should be fired based on the building presentation alone. It was embarassing.

If Ken King was (still) involved in evaluation of hockey talent and team building then Brian Burke would have quit a long time ago. Burke wouldn't tolerate that garbage.
