The Alberta economy cratering at the time it did didn't help either.
Ken King has done a lot of great things for the Flames. Unfortunately, most of them happened years ago.

Nah the miscalculation was because they figured since the mayor (surprisingly) expressed the need for a field house, that giving him one as part of the project would win him over for the arena portion. Shoehorning the Stamps into that field house wasn't a good idea either, barely passable as a venue.
Him and Murray's other miscalculation was entrusting the keys of the franchise to the smooth talking former GM, who, through bootlicking reasons and incompetence, and nowhere near the skills he himself advertised, promised (and forced) to empower both of his bosses with some decision making on hockey related matters for those couple years.
Thankfully Edwards realized it before it was really too late (though damage had been done) that the grass wasn't greener moving on from Sutter and promotion of a slick yes man to run the team, and first went after Shanahan and then coaxed Burke to get back into the game, and him and a King exited the hockey side.

So he's the person who folded the Chiefs to get a tax write off....
His comments around the team moving were bad. Might help to put a new face in that role to improve the image.

But it wasn't a threat! It was just a matter of fact statement about what would happen!

If I was head-hunting, I might have another candidate in mind. Someone who builds stuff.

The Flames are a tax write-off for a widowed rich broad?

"Hey Hanrahan!!"
I occasionally run into them on occasion at my Safeway. They're just buying groceries. Like anyone else.

Yes Kking would very high on my list to be fired for much of reasons already posted by others.
Yes Kenneth your time should be up just like the project name...NEXT.
I hope they have the gumption to punt him finally.

He seems like a nice enough guy but it's time for him to move on from the organization.
The meddling in hockey operations is just the cherry on top IMO, he deserves to be let go for how poorly he has managed the stadium situation over the last 10 years.
Just ridiculous.

Job performance aside, King as always come off has a pompous DB who thinks he's smarter than everyone else. Can't stand the guy. If I won the lottery and bought the Flames the first thing I'd do is get rid of King.

"Running it" is open to interpretation, but really, he'll never be considered a guy with a hockey background. Well, at least not until they've hired a staff that also got into the hockey business in their 50's. Then he'd be on equal footing.
