Warm Lakes Interior BC

Hey All,

Over the July long weekend week I'd like to take my 2yo to the lakes out in BC.

Whats a good lake to take her swimming in? It should be warm.

I was hoping to stay in Kelowna, would Lake Okanagan be warm enough by then?

Christina Lake is the warmest tree lined lake in western canada.

Wasa Lake is also another warmer lake, even from the BC Parks website

Have been there, and can confirm that it's an awesome and relaxing place!

Kalamalka Lake (Vernon, BC) is pretty shallow and warms up very quickly in the summer, and it's only a 20 minute drive from Kelowna

I spend a lot of time in BC during summers. All good suggestions in this thread so far.

A couple of years ago, I took my twins to Kelowna for a week. They were 6 at the time. The temperature was in the mid thirties and they were literally in the water all the time. Kelowna also has several nice beaches, some less busy than others.

Christina Lake is indeed very warm. But as I recall, there is only one big public beach and its pretty rocky. There are also more amenities in a city like Kelowna. If you're looking on a place like Airbnb to stay, you might also have more options in Kelowna vs. a place like Christina Lake. My brother goes there every year with his family and places book up quick.

Wasa can get.."yucky" if it gets too warm. There isn't a lot of water movement and it isn't too deep.

Have a cabin on Tie. Very warm in the summer. Public beach gets pretty full on long weekends though and the camp sites.

I might check water quality more so than warmth. On a hot day it's actually kind of nice to swim in colder water anyway, even for kids. And some of these spots can get surprisingly gross, especially in warmer water conditions.

The over all location and crowd factor would also be a bigger consideration for me. I wouldn't want to hang out at one of the busy beaches in Kelowna but some of the smaller, less crowded ones would be my pick.

Go wherever you will have the most fun, lake aside. The lake temperature honestly won't matter to a two-year old. They can have fun in really cold water. Maybe it's the layer of baby fat or something. Plus, they won't be in the water very long since they can't swim. It just truly doesn't matter.

Have a buddy who used to own on the lake. It's a warm lake. Best if you have a boat. The beach always looked busy on weekends.

You could try Gallagher Lake. It's in Oliver, BC. It's a private, small, spring-fed lake and its warm. Nice beach with paddle boats, etc. No power craft are allowed. Perfect for young kids. They have a lodge and these little cabins. We stayed in the cabins. My kids loved it there when they were small.

How is Lake Windermere in early July?

I spend summers in Kelowna so can speak to Okanagan Lake.

Unless Kelowna has a very warm June, the lake is still quite cold on July 1.

Really takes a stretch of weather in mid 20s for OK Lake to warm up.
