They got off easy. Should have also lost their next first-round pick and/or international bonus pool money. IMO.

Yeah for that price, that should provide incentive for more teams to start trying to hack into other teams databases.

When they first started talking about this violation, the assumed punishment was significantly higher than that. Christ, the Jays were rumored to be forced to give up more than that if they proceeded when they got caught tampering with Duquette.

The 4 years in jail also is a deterrent too!

It really depends if the league thought this employee went rogue or the team knew about it. If the team knew this punishment is light. If they didn't, I think it's fair.

Also, Astros get rewarded for terrible security! Jays draft so poorly we should let teams hack in for more draft picks and evening the playing field!

http://www.tsn.ca/report-mlb-to-test...hange-1.667291

Major League Baseball will begin testing an extra-innings rule change in the minor leagues this season, reports Yahoo! Sports Jeff Passan.

Aligning with international baseball rules, each team will begin extra innings with a runner on second base. The MLB will test the rule out in the Gulf Coast and Arizona Leagues, both rookie-level leagues, this summer.

I don't like it either, but I also do not like the DH.

Why do people hate the DH? From an entertainment stand point, you get a far better hitter and pitcher matchups with the DH.

For me as a fan, I'm far more interested in watching the best hitters go against the best pitchers. I'm not going to a game to watch Joe Madden, or Bruce Botchie use 5 relief pitchers and double switch out his second baseman for another mediocre hitter to avoid the pitchers spot in his batting order.

Yes strategy is a part of baseball, but I get sick of watching over managed lineups, and sub par hitters facing a different pitcher.

The World series was a good example for me. The games in Cleveland the Cubs could play Kyle Schwarber despite his injury all game. Watching him come in to hit and spark that lineup resulted in us seeing the best Cubs lineup face that Indians bullpen.

Maybe the games get closer because both teams eventually rely on lower level roster guys later in games without the DH? But I think as fans getting to see David Ortiz, or Edgar Martinez get a full complement of at bats against the best relief pitchers, is what I want to see.

Why? DH get's us better baseball. One less bad batter at the plate (The Pitcher) and one less bad defender on the field (The DH).

This proposed extra-inning change won't improve baseball... I would predict it would make it worse.

I don't watch much National League Baseball, and the reason is solely because they don't have a DH. The Pitchers can't hit worth #### and don't even try to even if they could, and it seems to add about 20-30 minutes to every game with the endless pitching changes to get a hitter up at the plate, especially when the rosters expand.

who gets to be on 2nd base to start the inning? is it just the next batter in the order?

I've heard some purists go so far as the say the NLCS is the real World Series, because the AL is not "real baseball".

I don't go that far, and don't see a huge difference between the two leagues.

Personally, I just prefer the NL rules. I like the strategic choices managers have to make. I like that every player has to hit. A pitcher that can hit like MadBum is so valuable. The emphasis on HRs does not impress me. I like a bit of small ball.

A HR should be an achievement - now they seem so cheap.

I played in both leagues and enjoyed playing the National League game better than the American League game. The game itself is better without the designated hitter. There is more strategy involved with double switches, balance in the bullpen and the benches becoming more important, and that adds to the excitement of the game for players. Most of that is lost with the DH. - Tom Candiotti
