Default MCSE Help

OK, so a new job that I have and I will be working toward obtaining MCSE certification. My new boss told me to start doing some training from home as they will pay for me to write the test, but I should be able to find reference material all over the Web apparently.

He wants me to start with a focus on networking essentials and domain administration. Can anyone who has this experience, point me in the right direction? Are there some good documents online I can download to read? I've done some searching, but I don't know what is good and what isn't and specifically where would be the best to look. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Check these out: http://www.microsoftvirtualacademy.c...id=uWTT7uCxKJl

They used to be called Hyper-V Virtual Labs, now it's the Microsoft Virtual Academy. It's a great way to get hands-on time with the product performing actual tasks you might do in the real world.

Training for the actual exams, on the other hand, you're probably looking at the Transcender or Train Signal practice exams or similar offerings.

You have to get your MCSA first before specializing so dont worry about anything other than that for now.

Exams 410, 411, 412 is your foundation.

What mykalberta said. 410, 411, 412 is what you are looking for right now.

If videos are your thing, then CBT nuggets or Train Signal are good, or you can buy training/exam prep books on Amazon.

Do any of you guys have links to videos or reading material for networking essentials and domain administration specifically? This is what he wants me to start with and focus on. I'm not even sure where to look for 410, 411 or 412.

they're referring to this

http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en...ification.aspx

If you search for books with MCSA 410/411/412 you'll find what you're looking for, and CBT Nuggets http://www.cbtnuggets.com/it-training-videos/microsoft

The assumption here is that they want the networking essentials under the Microsoft umbrella. There is networking related components in all of those books/courses.

Yeah...clicked the first link. I'm looking for some free stuff out there to try and learn some of this. They are paying for the tests, but I'm kind of on my own for the training. Was hoping to find some free stuff. Can't really afford to be putting out money right now.

If you want to get an MCSA and don't know how to get free stuff on the internet, then learn that first :P
