I know this is really off topic, but I really want to know what they're feeding the goalies in Finland..
In the last 10 years alone there has been Kiprusoff, Backstrom, Niemi, Lehtonen, Rinne, Rask... now Ortio is looking very promising and I'm sure he's not the only Finnish goalie prospect, just the only one I'm familiar with.

Antti Raanta as well, he was the other goalie on the World Championship team with Ortio last spring, has a ton of potential as well, currently with the Blackhawks organization and just actually played his first NHL game. He's a 1989.

Surprised this hasn't been discussed yet. Projected lines:
Cammalleri - Stajan - Stempniak
Baertschi - Monahan - Hudler
Galiardi - Colborne - Jones
Bouma - Backlund - McGrattan
Russell - Brodie
Butler - Wideman
Smid - O'Brien
Berra

Looks like Backlund will be playing with scrubs again tonight. Also, that third line looks pretty interesting. Finally Brodie isn't playing with Butler! Yay!

Backlund getting more and more redundant each game.

Pretty solid energy/checking line.
At long last Hartley has come to his senses and cut off the cancerous filth that is Chris Butler. Once Gio comes back I'd like to see:
Gio - Brodie
Russell - Wideman
Smid - SOB
With Butler eating popcorn from the pressbox. I still blame him if we lose.

His sloppy popcorn eating cost us the game

Russell - Brodie might be the smallest, least imposing D pairing imaginable. Hartley Can't play them together all night (so he probably will). Gio can't come back soon enough.

I hope they leave Ortio in Abbotsford and don't rush him up.
Remember, Irving was a lights out AHL star and when he had to elevate his game, he really shat the bed.
Hartley's riding Berra way too much. At this pace, I can see him burning out before the Olympic break.

Not sure why Wideman and Russell have been split.
Wideman - Russell
Brodie - Smid
SOB - Butler
Seems good to me. Until Gio gets back of course.

At some other time I might agree, but we just managed to catch one win after a 6 game losing streak. Now is not the time to change goalies just to give the other guy a chance.
Give Rämö Florida (typical backup opponent anyway), Berra gets Chicago and then Anaheim and Rämö gets the second night of that back-to-back vs. LA. Would make sense.

Colborne and Backlund are battling each other to see who gets the better linemates game by game. Colborne gets the better ones this game. Though neither player has great linemates.
I hope the Baertschi - Monahan - Hudler line stays together for the rest of the season.
The "top" line Cammalleri - Stajan - Stempniak could all potentially be traded by the deadline.

Brodie is 6' 1" hardly that small.

Ignore this sentence. Backlund hasn't shown anything to prove he belongs anywhere but the 4th line. I'm beginning to lose faith in him too.

What you be smokin? You got my hopes up but he is indeed in the lineup. Some on this thread feel it necessary to discuss healthy D-lines in a GDT.
Agreed on the backlund comment though. I was a big believer of this guy but he's a giveaway machine this season opposed to the one stealing the puck consistently last season. He needs some time in the AHL or a slap in the face, something.. Colborne may not do a lot with the puck, but he makes smart and safe plays. Top that off with a sick SO goal and he's definitely deserving of 3rd line duties over Backlund.

Wow, yeah, I apparently glazed over the line combos and didn't see Butler draw in.
