Wait, what the hell? Trade with Edmonton?!?!
Mind blown. Again.

This trade actually helps our depth on the back-end a lot. We added a Top 4 guy without losing anything much really.
An indirect benefit here... slides Butler/SOB down the depth chart.

Please let this deal bump Butler off of the roster..... If that happens this trade is a massive win...even if it was with the Oilers.

I don't know why this makes me lol, but it does. Looks more like a photocopier repair man, than a hockey player.

I believe in the Pony Power
Smid is a better player than Horak every will be.
Neither goalie will likely make the show IMO.
Good deal apart from the filthiness that is trades between these two clubs.

Funny that most of CP always said how terrible Smid was for the last few years, but now that he has been traded to Calgary its a "Good trade"

I don't mind this.
Smid was their only competent defenceman, and Horak was behind 6 centres at least while Brossoit was in a battle with Ramo, Berra, Ortio, and Gillies soon.

Horak was expendable with the likes of Knight and Reinhart in Abbotsford.
But Brossiot does have the potential to be a #1 (the chances of him achieving that is arguable). That may come back to bite the Flames later.

Also interesting that Burke and Lowe would have worked on this together. Burke is highly professional, but didn't he say something like he would never work out a deal with Lowe or something? Then again, maybe this was a peace offering from Lowe.

I like this for the Flames. Horak didn't look like he was going to crack the lineup any time soon. Smid is 27, physical guy who is mobile in his own right. Exactly the type of guy we need and in 2-3 years could probably ship him off for a similar return or more at the deadline.

I think Coborne, Knight, and Reinhart made Horak movable.

No, 5th round pick goalie prospect.
You're looking at Marc-Oliver Roy, getting your hopes up.
