Default On-going Calgarians hit by trains thread

Just happened- car vs C train. SB train crossing 4th ave. Car did pretty good considering it was pushed 100 feet. Doesn't appear to be any injuries.

If you are in the NW and are going to take the train into work, pick another way. Also WB 4th ave will be closed for a while at 9th street.

Edit- NB trains will also likely be affected as the car appears to be blocking part of the NB track.

I still have no idea how this happens. How do you miss flashing lights, bells, and the arms blocking the intersection?

They just let a NB train through. Had 3 inches of clearance.

CBC Traffic has tweeted a collision involving a C-train is also affecting service to the south from the core. Not sure if that is a separate accident, or if CBC just mixed up their compass points.

That's the line that runs to Somerset, so if trains aren't making it into the DT core, then for sure, the south route will be affected - even if they turn trains around somewhere, it'll slow down the route.

True. The wording of the tweet is what threw it off for me. It implied a crash in the south leaving the core.

I cross that intersection everyday and just did this morning. It's amazing to see how many people try to beat the yellow light. Hope no one's injuried.

If you are stupid enough to get hit by the train, at least do us the favour of dying (or at least some sort of serious injury).

Some "low quality" pictures of them removing the car from the front of the train. Please note that part of the train is missing.

Hope this person gets a massive ticket and insurance doesn't pay them out. How stupid are you to get hit by a ctrain with all the clear markers there.

One thing I hate about that C-Train intersection / crossing is the homeless junkies walking the street on red light asking for change. And they continue to do it because people give them all kinds of change - it's a regular cash flow alley. It's annoying and someone is going to get hurt.

Almost none of the downtown C-train crossings have arms blocking the intersections. This one is just flashing lights and the trains move pretty quickly through it.

While I do think they should get a massive ticket; I disagree with the insurance comment. You have insurance to cover you in case you do something stupid.

OT, but I've always wondered how insurance deals with stuff like this. I have a buddy who's a fireman, and he tells me, if you park beside a fire hydrant, they used to just break the windows and run the hose through your car. The water dripping off the hose pretty much means the car is a write off. The most expensive car he had to do that to was a 5 series BMW, and they gave the guy a massive ticket as well. Would your insurance even cover that? I think now, they don't even bother breaking the windows. They just ram your car to th side, and then charge you for the damages.

I wonder how much it would cost to repair damage to the front end of those newer trains.
