I don't believe he's creating any drama on purpose. He's probably got 3 or 4 similar contracts on the table and has to now decide where he wants to play for the balance of his career. No small decision and I think he's earned the right to sleep on it.
Bingo. Unlike Schultz, Parise and Suter are proven commodities and are worth the attention they are receiving.
If both of them sign long term deals, they are committing their entire careers and the prime of their lives to one city. I for one would take the extra day or two to weigh all the options, as this will be one of the biggest decisions they will make in their lives.
Especially considering places like Pittsburgh, Detroit, Minnesota, Carolina are not the most glamorous cities in the US.
Maybe Parise should do a Lebron James thing and have his own TV special on who he signs with. Can't believe all the drama players try to create.
How is this the players fault? It's all media and fan driven. You're gonna knock him for taking the night to ponder offers from numerous teams? A deal that will set him right for the rest of his life.
Parise has done nothing but sit and listen to offers. He hasn't had press conferences, he hasn't made public statements, nothing. His statement outside the agent office today was very uneventful. The "drama" you reference is all media and fans.

Pittsburgh and Raleigh are underrated cities. I would have no reservations living in either city. I haven't spent really any time in Detroit but pretty common knowledge it's not the greatest destination but I have been to Minneapolis/St. Paul and the best way to describe it is the Winnipeg of the US.

Okay. I see where you're coming from. That said his agent seems to be feeding the drama created by the media. Why not wait until a deal has been made.

The guy's deciding which team he wants to play for and which city he will likely end up spending the better part of a decade in (maybe more considering some of the rumoured offers) if he wants to take the better part of 48 hours to decide I don't think we can fault him. Now if we're having this conversation in September that's a different story.

Didn't really follow any of the TSN stuff yesterday so not sure how bad it was, but an agent using the media to promote interest and pit other teams against each other? Yeah that's kind of his job.

You don't need the media to pit other teams against each other.
Praise is sleeping on the biggest decision of his life. Nothing wrong with that
So how was Schultz's situation different?

No you don't, but it rarely hurts and can sometimes help. Seems to be a no-brainer to go to the media if you're an agent who has a high profile client.

You don't need the media. All an angent has to do is call a select group of teams to let them know they are in the running for his clinets services and for them to submit thier offers. From there he can let each team know what the other teams have offered and allow said teams to bid against one another.

Which is great, and it happens all the time. But if it accidentally gets leaked to Mr. Media Analyst that 2 teams on in the running and they happen to report it, no GM actively wants to disappoint there fanbase. Sure, some GM's I'd imagine will be like hell naw when things get leaked but it can also be a little push as you don't want Player X over there to go over to Heated Rival #1 when your fanbase knows you had been pushing all day for him.
Now I'm not saying it would be anything significant, or even matter at all, just that it could boost negotiations. When it takes 10 seconds to make a text, like I said, seems like a no brainer to me.

It doesn't boost negotiations. An active GM is responsible to the ownership group as opposed to the fans. Teams don't make trades or sign players based on what the fan base wants. Just imagine if Feaster listened to the fans on this site. Bouwmeester and Butler would have been traded already and coach Sutter canned halfway through last season.

BS. Bottom line. Minnesota is a beautiful state, and this is a great city with awesome people. Pittsburgh is a ####hole with steel money.

Sadly, that's much easier said than done. With today's sports media, everyone has connections either with an agent or with members of a club's brass. As much as a player might try, word is going to get out one way or another and with the likes of social media, it's going to get out to the public very quickly.
