I'm kind of hoping the Flames draft Tomas Hyka with the 3rd just to watch Holmgren explode in a fit of rage.

haha yeah, Hyka would be an interesting choice. I'm curious where he'll be taken - could easily be a second rounder though.

Oft injured tiny overager...probably will fall a bit. No doubt I think Phili will try to draft him earlier than required after that preseason debacle.

I could be wrong, but I believe Philly doesn't have any 2nd or 3rd rounders this year ... they traded them for Kubina and Grossman.

I know they moved their 2nds in typical Holmgren fashion, but did thy also move their 3rds?

I just checked: they have one third rounder - #78, originally a Sharks pick.

- they traded their own 2nd to Tampa Bay in the Meszaros deal
- they traded the Kings 2nd (from the Richards deal) to Dallas in the Grossmann deal
- they traded the Panthers 2nd (from the Versteeg deal) to Tampa Bay in the Kubina deal
- they traded their own 3rd to Phoenix in the Bryzgalov deal

So they only have a third from the Versteeg deal from Florida (originally from San Jose). The 2nd from the Kubina trade is a conditional pick though - it could either be 2012 or 2013, so there's a chance that the Flyers can keep this pick.

Lukas Sutter, Rich's kid, took 120 MINUTES IN MINOR PENALTIES this season. My mind, it's breaking.

9 fights last year and 165 PIMs.
That's slightly down from 17 fights the year before and 179 PIMs.

If I were his coach, I'd be hard pressed not to scratch him. That's got to be a huge detriment to his team.

I wonder how much his discipline will play into his draft position.

He's also got a LOT of game-winners and power-play goals. So it seems to be feast or famine with him.

I wouldn't mind picking Leipsic in one of the later rounds. He seems to have pretty good hands and speed.

Would you like to tell us all where these other 29 teams would likely target this player so we have an idea?

This isnt a first round pick, you can easily discuss where there is risk/reward in taking this player in the later rounds without it sounding ridiculous

Well that's like saying 29 other teams were interested in Ferland, Granlund or Wotherspoon.
It's obvious that other teams want them, but after the draft leaves the first round it becomes a discussion of where that player should be taken.

So the Flames have the following picks
1st Round - 14th overall (Calgary pick)
3rd Round - 75th overall (Calgary pick)
4th Round - 105th overall (Calgary pick)
5th Round - 122nd overall (Columbus pick)
6th Round - 165th overall (Calgary pick)
7th Round - 186th overall (Toronto pick)
7th Round - 195th overall (Calgary pick)

Leipsic is projected to be drafted in the 4th round. Ranked 114th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. Would be a great pick for the Flames if we was available in the later rounds. Maybe worth the risk, maybe the worth a 3rd round pick. However, you never now.

I am kinda hoping the flames trade some vets to get some more first rounders.

Leipsic would be a great value as a 5th rounder.
