I'm sure by the time they actually debut, they'll realize that they made a huge mistake and reverse the decision.
It really makes no sense. They can either take my $10 and let me download them legally, or get no money from me and I'll find some way to watch them anyway.
The only thing that makes any sense would be if the producers are trying to find a Canadian broadcaster to distribute the show, but unless they can find someone who will air all 10 episodes back-to-back-to-back, they're still going to lose a lot of business to torrents.
With Netflix trying to position itself as a legitimate source of original content, you'd think they'd want to have worldwide exclusivity.

There must be certain hoops to jump through for distribution beyond the states that we aren't aware of. Ignoring other countries for this is just too stupid.

I really hope the new episodes meet the standards of seasons 1 and 2, and not the wretchedness that was the third season. The majority of that season is pretty much unwatchable in my view.
I don't know if they were rushed to finish the series, if they were pissed off at Fox for cancelling the show, or the drop in quality was because of the writers strike, but they really screwed up that final season.

I thought that the episode in season 3 with the mole and jetpack was the best one of the entire series. The way it came together at the end was brilliant!

Agreed, my favorite of the whole series, too. But I actually have a pretty hard time coming up with a bad episode throughout all three seasons.

Fox still owns the show, Netlfix owns the distribution rights... So who knows how that all plays out. Huge let down though.
Pretty sure in Canada Canwest/Global own the rights as well and would get first crack. That is most likely why there would be an issue with Netflix showing it in Canada. Not sure it would have anything to do with Fox for Canadian distribution.

Fox in terms of who they sold distribution rights to in Canada.
CBC was running it daily for a while.

Sure, but once sold, they have no say.

Yes, syndication episodes. New episodes I'm sure are still owned (rights wise), but Canwest/Global.
This is no different unfortunately from the reasons why there is such a discrepancy in content in Canada compared to the U.S. Rights issues always getting in the way and basically screwing over the consumer.

So after years of making fun of AD fans for not letting it go, this month I watched all 53 eps on Netflix. It was actually pretty good. Like a few have mentioned, I think it fell off a bit in the 3rd season. But I am looking forward to the new content!
