Well to put this all in perspective: Of the non-playoff NHL teams, Sutter coached the team with the best record. Just saying, maybe he is the best option available.

You could always just cheer for Edmonton if they scoop up another Sutter. I doubt anyone here is holding you back.

I was all for keeping Sutter, always have been, I especially think he'd be the top guy to run a re-build. I think posters are fairly even on whether to keep him or let him go.

My point was, seeing how he's the guy to guide Canada, maybe the Flames let go someone they should have kept. I think Canada hiring him somehow shows the Flames made the wrong move, and depending on the rest of the summer moves, they potentially choose the wrong path to take this team -> rebuild vs answers are in the room.

for me, I was indifferent when it came to dismissing Brent Sutter. I don't believe he was part of the problem, but he also wasn't capable of correcting it during his three years.

I just hope Brent and the Flames parting ways isn't the most significant change this off-season. If it is? Well...I'll be flabbergasted and extremely frustrated.

The truth of the matter is, the Flames are a team that has treaded water for the past few seasons and is most likely due for a decline.

The Oilers, while not progressing as fast as some predicted, are a team that should be projected to improve over the next few seasons.

All this is true no matter where Brent Sutter is coaching.

Three straight first overall draft selections, not to be obtuse about it, but of course they're projecting to improve, how can they do any worse.

I know that Brent Sutter thinks very highly of Bouwmeester and we will see that at the WC's. I bet he's out against the other teams top lines 5 on 5 and is on the first PK unit.

Actually, looking at that roster, he'll just be in that position because he's the best D-man there.

The people who think Iggy and Kipper should stay on and retire Flames, What do they think is going to happen after they retire. Trading them now and not having them is the same as if they are to retire. Only difference, we'll at worst have a 7th round pick to show for them. Keeping them is isn't going to get the Flames into the playoffs as the last 3 years have shown.
Because Calgary not offering Brent a new contract, but Team Canada offering the World Championship Head Coach position does not necessarily mean ownership is a bunch of idiots, nor does it necessarily mean Kipper and Iggy are not going to be traded.

Team Canada World Championship Coaches (per Wikipedia)

2010 - Craig MacTavish - How stupid could the Oilers be?
2009 - Lindy Ruff - Coming off back to back out of playoffs
2008 - Ken Hitchcock - Coming off a hot year missing playoffs with CBJ.
2007 - Andy Murray - Fired by LA in 2006, no playoffs with St.L in 2007...
2006 - Marc Habschied - Doesn't look like he was doing much in 2006...
2005 - Marc Habschied - See above...
2004 - Mike Babcock - Did not come back to Anaheim after season.
2003 - Andy Murray - missed playoffs with LA Soon to be fired
2002 - Wayne Fleming...

PS: it's only has an apostrophe when it's replacing it is, not when it is possessive.

oooooo. Maybe if Brent becomes HC up Old Bat Road, Bouwmeester will agree to waive his NTC to follow him. Dare to dream.

World Championship loser tourny Brents Oiler audition. Meh i don't really care if he does I subscribe to A.B.E & A.B.V. So Sutter will just become part of the enemy.
Renny must be loving all this talk for his job, he must be thinking pass the pepto.

Exactly. Even if the Oilers do hire Brent Sutter and they improve, it won't be able to be attributed to Sutter taking them over. It's bound to happen over the next few seasons no matter who is coaching them. The key to them is if management can start doing a better job.
