Jailbreaking 3GS

I'd consider myself pretty tec savvy, in terms of downloading things and learning how to use them so I'm sure once I've jailbroken a phone I'd be able to figure things out.

I'm just looking to find the best jailbreaker that wont harm my phone. I've seen some internet reports about people leaving there phones wide open to hackers to do as they wish, things like rick rolling and worms that harm the phone.

what version is your Iphone software? I have 3.0 and that is easy to jailbreak with redsn0w.

I believe it's the most up to date. I plugged the phone into my comp last week, got some of my tunes on there and did the update.

Yeah blackra1n is pretty much the simplest thing to do.

If you want to unlock the phone, then you need to use pwnage tool, and that's slightly complicated.

ANY method to jailbreak the phone leaves you vulnerable to the rick-roll and the malicious worm. But all you have to do is change the default ssh password from Alpine to something else. You can do that by downloading a terminal app from Cydia.

Well I went with blackra1n, everything was running smoothly (since 8pm last night) until about 10 minutes ago.

I get this message

Error: Datebase
Encountered a section with no
Package: header

Anyone know what I've got to do to get this working again? ugggh

Alright so I've found the solution after going through a bunch of threads on the net.. Just don't know how SSH my phone and I also want to make sure I change my password from alpine to something else..

iMister, I finally got the problem solved!!

Just SSH into your iPhone, navigate to the following folder:

/private/var/lib/apt/lists

delete everything except the folder "partial" (You can move them to a folder in your PC/MAC just in case)

Restart Cydia and no more warning this time! Go to Changes and press Refresh and all the changes should be there again!

It at least works for me...do let me know if it works for you

I think we kinda got something corrupted and Cydia just doesn't know what to do.....
