Default TJ Brodie - OHL Defenseman of the Month - November

Brodie was named the OHL defenseman of the month for November this week. The fact that he played most of the month in a full shield because of a broken jaw makes this even more impressive and helps off-set his below average performance in his OHL-Russia game appearance.

Quote:
Saginaw, MI) The Ontario Hockey League has named Saginaw Spirit defenseman T.J. Brodie the OHL Defenseman of the Month for November. The Dresden, Ontario native posted 3 goals and 14 assists in 9 games during the month of November, including a 5 point game against the Barrie Colts on November 22. He was plus-5 on the month.
Brodie, a 2008 NHL draft pick of the Calgary Flames, is currently ranked fifth amongst OHL defenseman in scoring having tallied 5 goals and 20 assists in 20 games this season, posting a plus-9. The third year player also represented the Spirit when he played with Team OHL at the 2008 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge.

Brampton's Cody Hodgson was named the OHL Player of the Month and his teammate Evgeny Grachev was named the OHL Rookie of the Month. Mike Murphy of the Belleville Bulls was named the OHL Goaltender of the Month.

Great to hear. Flames having good luck with broken-jawed OHL defencemen... (cf. Pelech)

I can't stand Daryl Sutter. All he ever does is draft stay-at-home, grinding, dmen with size and no ability to play any type of offensive game. Plus, I bet this kid is western Canadian too!!!

In reality, it's nice to see this kid doing well. Sutter is quietly building up a decent prospect base on the backend.

for someone that is not real familiar with non-qc prospects, will we see him on qc ice in the next couple years? (assuming the team doesn't leave!)

Man, I hope so... so far this kid is really turning some heads. He was terrific in the prospects game in September.

He was just drafted this year, so I think two years from now is the earliest he could be in QC.

Good group of blueliners headed to the farm.

thank god, we need to keep dan spang out of our long term plans!

though it does seem like there are enough quality blueliners that each year a couple come to qc and each year one or two are able to at least play at a serviceable nhl level.

Having had the opportunity to watch Brodie a bit more, I am thinking that the Flames got a steal in the fourth round. Brodie is turning into a similar player to a guy who will be attending his second WJC this year and was drafted by Montreal a year before him in the second round: PK Subban. His skating and vision are very good at the Junior level.

He's defineatly emerged as a force at the OHL level, although adding 10-15 pounds of good weight will be necessary before he can play in the pros.

I think he'll end up being a legitmate PP QB who, when paired with a more physical partner can eat 20-25 minutes a night.
