Default [Rogers] Cell Phone Roaming Charges

I'm going to Florida for a vacation next week and I want to bring my cell phone with me. Does anybody know how roaming charges work? If I have my phone on am I going to get stuck with a huge bill when I come back? I'm on the Rogers network. I've tried to look on their website but I haven't had much luck. Thanks for the help!

Call Rogers. I call before I go to the States. I found out that it would cost me a roaming charge and a fairly high per minute cost for time used. I chose not to use my cell phone in the States except in case of emergency. I was in the States once for a couple of weeks and just added on a month of a couple hundred minutes for about $25.

When I went to Vegas I has my phone on the whole time and even sent a couple texts and nothing showed up on my bill. I think you only get charged if you actually call someone.

^^ Check with your service provider, as I seem to recall with Telus it depended on what state you were going to. I can see a tourist friendly place like Vegas making sure that out of towners don't get dinged for roaming without calling.

Agreed check with Rogers, one gotcha with roaming is if you have your phone with you and on, if you don't answer it and it goes to voicemail, you'll be charged roaming minutes for the time that is used while the person leaves a voicemail!

They said to leave my phone off if I was taking it with me.

I'm in the same boat as the OP....can I arrange with rogers to turn off voicemail? Doesn't look like I can manually control it on my iphone.

is your phone unlocked? if it is, buy a pre-paid card from t-mobile or at&t for $20-30 and it includes the sim card as well. this is what i always do when i go to the u.s.

What?! That has NEVER happened to me in all the time I've spent in the US. That's complete crap.

what phone are you using? most phones just need a code that gets sent to you through email, and they give you instructions on how to do it. that's how my rogers branded blackberry pearl was done.

i can post up a couple of websites that offer this service, when i get home from work.

Through Bell a Samsung. I don't see the model number anywhere. I'd post it if someone knows how I can find if the phone's model number is somewhere I can access under Help or someplace like that?

Bell doesn't use Sim Cards. The suggestion was posed in this thread as the question was about Rogers roaming.
