Panthers sign Forsling to extension (8 yrs, $5.75 mil AAV)
They gave Forsling everything you usually give to star players.
Full NMC for 6 years (potential expansion draft implications). Majority of it being paid out in signing bonuses (making it buyout proof)

That cap hit is very solid though. Good deal for both sides.

I believe in the Jays.

That's a tidy bit of work by the Panthers.

This guy is pretty heavy proof that you should slow cook defensemen. Didn't become a top 4 dman until he was 25 and before that I think few thought he had it in him. Now he looks like he could be a long term top pairing guy at 27.

And he was originally a waiver claim. Great asset management by the Panthers.

Timing… lose out on Hanifin and react by signing him? Or just coincidence?

That's a good deal. I know some people don't like +/- but he is a total +122 in his last 4 seasons. That's no fluke and he puts up points as well.

On waivers as a 24 year old, turned out great after being given a bigger role on a new team
We can hope Miromanov can do something similar

Makes sense. That cap hit is very low. Since Florida has such low taxes, he probably comes out about the same signing there for less. If Florida has the power, to at any time, trade him to a high tax jurisdiction, the contract looks awful.

nope, another team thought he wasn't good enough to be an NHL regular so he is obviously a terrible player for life
signed CP after the Toffoli and Hanifin trades

An absolute steal for what he does at both ends of the ice. This is a high, high value contract.

The taxes aren't as big a deal as they are made out to be

Here's his scouting report from CapFriendly:
Quote:
Report #1
Nov. 27, 2023 (Updated Nov. 29, 2023)
Contract: $8,000,000 over 3 years (Cap hit: $2,666,667)
Position scouted: Left Defense
Age when scouted: 27
Rating: 89
Compared Against: P2
("Professional report: overall rating of 89 when weighted against equal counterparts at the following talent level: Second Pair")
- Doesn't get the attention, or credit, he deserves compared to some other names on the Panthers 'D'.
- Used in all situations. Excellent skater. Sound defender. Head on a swivel / spatial awareness / reads and reacts very well in the defensive zone.
- Has the legs to lead the rush on his own or join as an extra layer
- Sneaky shot from distance. Can beat NHL goalies clean. Sets up on the weak side on the second PP unit. Solid one timer.
- Reliable in a variety of roles. Matches up against top six forwards. Some bump to his game. Blocks shots. Does a lot of 'little things' very well. Could be a top pairing on some teams.
- Averages over 23:00 TOI.

I’d like to see Kylington locked up for similar deal.
