I must be a dinosaur, because I now like Reilly more for that. You want to showboat on an empty net? You get a punch in the face (hardly a cross-check)
… have some class … (which half of us think I’m taking about Reilly, but I’m talking about Grieg)

I'm all for the code and everything but when it's just against a net.... whatever. Rielly acted like he did that to the goalie after a whistle or something
Sorry, there isn't a term for "sucker hit". You know what I meant.

I was at the game too. The hot dogging wasn't as bad as I remember, but it was definitely there and Iginla and the Flames responded as expected.

After thinking about it more, I'd say if Grieg wasn't expecting some kind of reaction for that, he's an idiot, but Rielly took it too far. Should have stuck to a crosscheck to the shoulder, glove in the face, and a "keep your head up next game".

How is that more of a punch than a cross check?
What colour is the sky in your world?

Nobody has an issue if he goes over, gives him a face wash and tries to rough him up. Cross check to the head is way over the line.
How could he possibly get less games than Anderson did for hitting Laine earlier in the year.
Gotta be at least 5.

Reilly already got a 5 minute major plus a game misconduct, severely hindering the Leafs ability to win the game. That is ample punishment already, not need for additional suspensions...

I honestly don’t see anything wrong with firing the puck. Are there no “raisies” allowed?
He didn’t raise his hands in the air, didn’t pull a Fleury slide. He shot it hard.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Since when is a punch delivered by means of a stick held in both hands?
Based on the clips posted in this thread, it looks like the contact is glove hitting helmet and the stick didn't hit him. Maybe there's a better angle somewhere else that shows the stick making contact. If there is, then I'd agree that crosses the line.
EDIT: Okay, I see the slo-mo in the video above and the stick clearly makes contact. Yeah, that's a lot worse than what it originally looked like to me from the low-res Twitter clips.

Remember when Muzzin shot the puck at Tkachuk after a game a few years ago? I wonder how Leafs fans would have felt if Tkachuk went and blindsided Muzzin with a cross check to the head.
Would they be saying Muzzin deserved it? Shooting the puck at someone after the game is over is less of a hockey play than a clapper into an empty net.

This can't be a serious take? Clear stick directly to head.
Edit: maybe I saw more angles as I was watching the game. But it was a cross check t to the head.

Iginla hits him almost before the puck goes in the net. I would guess Iggy hit him within half a second of when the puck goes in the net at most. Rielly hits him almost 3 seconds after the puck goes in the net. Watched a lot of hockey in my life, cannot think of a similar situation outside the Dale Hunter hit where someone got levelled that long after a goal.
Maybe in hockey a player who knows the game is out of reach shouldn't even score the empty net goal. Skate it into the corner. Kind of like victory formation in football or the NBA usually let's the clock run out if the trailing team no longer wants to foul.
What Grieg did was the equivalent of dunking up 10 when the defense has given up.

People here are going to watch the Super Bowl tomorrow and laugh while the scoring team does a dance routine in the end zone or spins the ball. But they are going crazy because someone slapped a puck into an empty net because “hockey code” nonsense. I’m sure greig is chuckling away tonight thinking of the suspension that Reilly hopefully gets for this.

Come on now, he should put it in the net every time
