75 Tastes Of Calgary/ 75 Tastes Of CP
http://www.where.ca/index.php/the-we...es-of-calgary/
For 75 years, Where Magazine has been the most trusted source for travellers looking for the inside scoop on what the world’s greatest cities have to offer. To celebrate this milestone, here are some of the most iconic and unique dishes the city has to offer, from local meat and produce to flavours balanced to perfection to cult favourites. It wasn’t easy, but we had a little help from some of Calgary’s top food experts—John Gilchrist, Karen Anderson, Linda Garson, Anh Chu, Catherine Caldwell and Andree Lau. Happy eating!

69. Strawberry Guava Mousse Cake at Yamato Desserts • This mousse cake is light, airy and silky smooth, with striking tropical flavours of strawberry and guava.
I think I remember someone on this very board giving some enthusiastic thumbs up to this place, possibly even for this very cake.

I went to have the 1st place grill cheese sandwich solely based on this recommendation. Wasn't all it cracks up to be.

I will be happy when I never see Peter's on a "best of" list again.

I love how it's cool to hate Peter's now.
You know why that place is lined up like crazy all the time?
Because it's awesome.
Sometimes a guy just wants a greasy burger with a non-sensensical number of patties (1.5) that just spent 2 hours in a bathtub of cheap BBQ sauce. Melt some petroleum byproduct "cheese" on top if it, throw in some McCain's onion rings and a shake with whatever stupid combination of flavors I can dream up, and THAT is a good lunch.

If busy=awesome, then I guess the Big Mac is the best burger ever.

You want a serious grilled cheese, go to the Kilt & Caber in McKenzie Towne:
"Intense Grilled Cheese - A serious grilled cheese sandwhich stuffed with double smoked bacon and aged cheddar."

Is Ho Won still known for their salt and pepper squid?

D-effing-licious! Haven't had that in years! Would love to know if it's still as good as it used to be.

So what are the CP 75 tastes of Calgary?
LChoy reminded me of the S&P squid at Ho Wans.
My contribution is the house dressing at Matador's in Varsity. A super creamy dill dressing that could make a cat turd edible. While Matador's has good pizza, the salad dressing makes me drive across the city.
I'm interested to find out what some of your guys's are as well. I like the ones that are at out of the way, not too fancy places.

Wow, looks like they picked a bunch of good resturaunts, and then just chose what no one orders there. "Toasted Seed Roll at Good Earth", seriously? The Very Berry Muffin is awesome, so is almost anything else on the menu, and you go with a toasted roll?
My two confirmations on that whole list are Cafe Mauro sandwich, and the deconstructed Creme Brule at Chef's table. They at least got those two right.
I also think it should be cool to hate on Alley Burger, that was the most over rated burger I have ever had bar none. Or is it good cause it has organic beef? Reminds me of that Parks and Rec episode about the burger cook off.

The Rose and Crown also makes a killer grilled cheese with gruyere (I think) heirloom tomatoes, goat cheese and arugula, or at least they did a couple of years ago.
