IMO, I make the best damn sandwiches around town.
After being let down so many times, I have stopped buying them outside.
Made fresh by me , is the only way to go.

Metro Cafe or my house. I bought a 30lbs brisket of smoked meat and 13 dozen bagels last time I was in Montreal. Suitcase weighed 62 lbs

Spolumbo's, no question IMO
Great Italian and Deli sandwitches, and the Sausages is darn good too.
They are a little pricey, however.
Come to think of it, I'm goin gto head over there for lunch right now

I'll give a second nod on Keith's. Solid little deli. Just remember to bring cash, no debit/cc there.

Wouldn't the bagels be stale by the time you got through them? Last time I went back to Calgary to visit my family I brought some bagels, but even by the next day they weren't good anymore. By "not good" I mean you could still eat them, but they didn't taste quite right (to me anyway).
The image of someone carrying a 30lbs brisket in their suitcase is also quite funny! Hope you don't mind me saying so.

We bought the bagels at 2 am and flew out at 8 am. They had just been baked so they were still pretty good by the time we got them in the freezer.

So the million dollar question -- St. Viateur or Fairmount?
Are they still good from frozen?

Another vote for Keith's. The special has been a favorite of mine for many years.
Another great place is The Italian Store off of McKnight by WestJet. Their food is always fresh and great.

I'll have to be honest, I was in the West Island that night. It would have been St. Viateur had I been downtown. I got them at Real Bagel.
1. St. Viateur
2. Fairmont
3. REAL
IMO.
They are still good from frozen if you pop them in the microwave for a few seconds after you let them defrost at room temp. Spending a fourtune on smoked salmon these days though.

Kings Subs in the NE. They get their smoked meat flown in from Montreal. (The place is decorated with Hab's stuff).

I gotta say, I really love the Deli sandwiches from Safeway. They've got a nice selection, and the sandwiches are really wide and fill you up right.

Yup, hands down the best Montreal Smoked in the city. They look like they make a mean poutine as well, but I have never had it. A heart attack at age 32 would not be fun!
