Default Landmark court ruling: a burrito is not a sandwich

Haven't seen this posted yet.

Is a burrito a sandwich? A crucial question of fact, requiring the testimony of expert witnesses.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061110/..._or_sandwich_2

It remains to be seen whether Canadian courts will adopt the American precedent.

But what about an open-faced sandwich? One slice of bread involved there.

So a quesadilla would be a sandwich?

How about a shawarama? Donair? Club Sandwich (three slices)?

This question was answered several years ago by me and several friends.

A bunch of us started the U of C Sandwich appreciation club to hadle debates just such as this one, and we concluded (without going into much detail), that infact things like wraps, burritos, and tacos are not in fact sandwiches. Why this had to go to a judge is beyond me, it was decided long ago.

The judge couldn't answer the Danes. Open faced sandwiches too glorious not to be put in a place of their own.

In Denmark they have special coolers for their open-faced sandwiches. They look like a mini computer tower with a dozen little drawers down the face of them, each drawer holds a spectacular open-faced sandwiches.

It's like treasure, I tell ya.

I don't know man. Nothing does it for me like some pickled herring, havarti cheese and diced pickled onions on some dark rye bread. Does horrible things to your breath. but its worth it. Who needs kissing when you have Danish open-faced sandwiches to eat?

Never mind, you did it right and married a Dane.

After reading this thread I thought to myself, what does this have to do with Jamie Lundmark. Then I realized it wasn't infact his ruling, but a landmark ruling and I wasn't in the Fire and Ice forum.

as the 'sandwich' originated with the earl of sandwich, with two slices of bread, i'd have to say that technically that ends that debate.

but in common vernacular, like restaurant menus, 'sandwiches' often include wraps, and a steak sandwich is open-faced - as well as hot turkey sandwich, etc.

so maybe sandwich = bread, maybe sandwich = flour-based baking with vegetables and/or meat.

this issue needs to be settled immediately.

But then you have things made with corn tortillas. Are those sandwiches?

Pita bread. Is it two slices when you open it up?

Hot Dogs? The bun is connected, but has two distinct sections.

Like I said, it was settled years ago by myself and my colleuges in the U of C Sandwich appreciation club. We were officially sanctioned by the U of C students union so I think we were more than qualified to make these sorts of decisions.

No part of the essence of the Sandwich Club was that we did absolutley nothing that was expected of a club. However, despite never having any events, meetings, or ever submitting our yearly report (which was required yearly to continue being a sanctioned club) we managed to remain on the clubs list for like 3 years.
